  1. Anyone get your Rivian preorder gift / swag?

Got mine as well, also on March 28, in Hawaii. Slightly better done than the similar Model 3 rendering I got after my preorder way back in 2016.
  2. Rivian Waiting Room: Have you pre-ordered with deposit?

Yup, put in my $1K the day Rivian opened preorders. Wished Rivian offered a version without a second row of seating and devoted that space to a longer bed (the bed is clearly too short), but I guess it's not meant to be a utility pickup and "adventures" clearly have in mind families. Perhaps...
  3. Rivian Waiting Room: Have you pre-ordered with deposit?

That's OK: you can still outdistance her on any curvy roads -- the R1T will not corner like a Model S, much less like a Model 3.
  4. Anyone get your Rivian preorder gift / swag?

Same for me here, but I pre-ordered the R1T before the R1S was unveiled, so the message could not have said anything about the R1S. I'd assume that pre-orders placed after the R1S was unveiled carry the message about interchangeability.
  5. Could Rivian actually be Apple’s Project Titan?

That would mean Amazon is investing in an Apple venture -- does not seem too likely. In any case, Apple's philosophy since its initial success with the iPhone has been "soak the customer to the max" and "keep customers addicted to the brand name", using exactly the same approach (and the same...
  6. Anyone get your Rivian preorder gift / swag?

Very nice -- just like what I got when I preordered my Model 3 way back on March 2016. In both cases, they chose a drawing/rendering over a picture of their prototype, which is the right choice --- anyone can download a high-res pic of the R1T or R1U, print it, and frame it, but the rendering...
  7. which will ship first?

They will definitely have learned from Tesla not to set their sights too high, but, although they have a factory and they have experienced car people, so did Tesla when it set out to manufacture Model S, and again when it started out with Model X, and again with Model 3 -- but each time they had...
  8. Possible First Peek at Rivian R2 - Future Rally Model

I was the one who made that second point. BEVs without a change in electrical power generation are nice, but not a solution -- they are quieter, more efficient (for every ton of coal or natural gas or oil burned for electrical production, they go much farther than an ICE car would go using the...
  9. Possible First Peek at Rivian R2 - Future Rally Model

That's a seriously fallacious argument about BEVs and about electrical energy. The whole point of BEVs is that they provide a significant incentive for the electric power industry to move away from fossil fuels and invest in non-polluting energy production (wind, geothermal, solar with battery...
  10. Possible First Peek at Rivian R2 - Future Rally Model

Actually, there are lots of reasons to doubt that. Wall Street has this microscopic vision when it comes to Tesla, interpreting every cough or blink of Musk's and every change in personnel as if the company's future was at stake each time -- I cannot remember any company undergoing that level...
  11. Rivian approach, departure and breakover angles would be class leading

Rivian was careful not to keep the rear end square and that paid off handsomely for the departure angle -- along with the relatively short bed. Should be enough for most circumstances, although I've been on backcountry tracks to rock-climbing areas where this would not be enough. None of these...
  12. Surprising things about the R1T

The sliding bed cover? The pop-up cargo bars (for your kayak or longboard -- living in Hawaii, I especially liked those) ? The modular architecture (you can remove the bed of the pickup to give you more vertical space for storage or for a van-like covered rear area, the latter obviously at a...
  13. Rivian R1T Colors - Previews

Nice! Definitely the pale metallic sea green (next to last) for me. I want real color, so no white, grey, anthracite, black, regardless of matt, metallic, shine, etc. versions. Had to buy my Model 3 in red (the only other color is blue, and I really dislike blue for cars), even though red...
  14. Rivian vs. Atlis??

A big machine, but I cannot see how they have any chance of producing a pickup of this size, with 300mi of range and charging that fast by the end of 2020. Battery tech just is not there yet.
  15. Rivian vs. Atlis??

I like the idea too. The various partial profiles of Model Y released until a week ago showed a car without side mirrors. The Tesla big rigs at the reveal did not have mirrors, but once they were on the roads for testing, they sported side mirrors, and the last Model Y teaser released a few...
  16. Pre-order question - possible to change from change from R1S to R1T?

Rivian was quite clear that you can preorder either one and decide which you want at the time of actual ordering, so no sweat and no need to do anything at this time.
  17. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

Mid-range, for sure. Much better specs for what seems to be a fairly modest additional outlay (15% extra); given that the truck is expensive to start with, the extra 15% seems like a modest price for the increased performance. The ultra-long range remains poorly defined, but specs given so far...
  18. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

It's comparable in terms of luxury to equivalently priced ICE pickups. In terms of performance, well, anything with electric motors pretty automatically outperforms anything with ICEs in the same price range. So I think the price is reasonable -- neither a bargain nor overpriced. You could...
  19. Anyone get your Rivian preorder gift / swag?

Now is not the time for gifts -- the best gift to all of us is to move from prototypes to production. I was one of the first to preorder a Model 3 from Tesla; you wouldn't believe the amount of traffic on the forums about the form of "reward" for early adopters, nor the scale of projected...
