Awesome write up. Thank you. Can you explain how you went through brakes like that in 20k miles? I’m at almost 100k miles in a model 3 and still not close to replacing them. What’s the difference here? I’m looking at used R1Ts…
Edit - after reading it seems maybe it was either the...
The service guy is definitely wrong. The 20 inch wheels are probably heavier, but that would only affect range around town and not on the highway. Aero (and tires) matter much more when at highway speed.
Awesome write up. Thanks for giving details on the total experience. Also, remember that there’s also 135,000 other employees at Tesla that work hard for their money too!
The vehicle does not have a creep function like the older Teslas or an ICE car has (with a torque converter). He will have to learn to feather the pedal for those small incremental movements into and out of the garage. Rivian (and Tesla) sorely need to bring back the creep function.
Honestly, waiting for the RAP 1 chip is better move than worrying about Lidar. That chip is what is going to enable the much improved ADAS and self driving compute needed in the future.
I really, truly don't understand why Car Play is so important. It is a redundant process. It's simply mirroring everything that is already on your phone and connecting the phone to Bluetooth does literally everything you'd need from it anyways.
I'm 100 percent with you on the lack of "creep" mode. This should absolutely be a standard feature - it helps with transition from ICE and it's also just easier to drive in tight spaces, like backing out of your driveway. Creep NEEDS to be a function. Not sure I can live without it moving...
I have a spare from Modern Spare for my Tesla model 3- it has the same bolt pattern as the new R2, so thats what I'm going to use. I usually take the tire with me on road trips in my Tesla and just place it in the trunk. Its not "compact" like the R2 one, but it will work great on the R2...
Yes it very much has the light grey or silver plastic fascia on the bottom of the front and rear bumpers. Those are “black” on the R1 blackout packages. I really hate that those areas on the R2. They gotta be black!
I really wish they would have eliminated the silver trim that the bottom of the front and rear bumpers. The R1's look so much better with the black out package.
Kind of agree here. The whole thing needs rebuilt from the ground up to compete with where the market is going, to lower costs (and cost of ownership) as well reliability (get rid of the air suspension).
It’s really quite beautiful, but I just don’t know if I can buy one until there’s a black wheel and possibly “black out” package. But miss on not having the black accents. But goodness, I love it.
