Amen to all of that.
I was bemused this past weekend as I was stopped at a light with a few cars in front of me and both sides. My eyes looking through the windshield saw them waiting patiently at the light, but the renderings on the interior screen had these cars and trucks doing the Hokey...
That was probably true once upon a time, but Rivian’s mission is to impress Wall Street and turn a profit. There is no “higher margin built in” when the company famously loses money on a per-car basis. Rivian literally can’t afford whimsy to entertain 30 or so buyers. It needs to pare down costs...
This is the correct answer.
I just listen to music and close my eyes during the (rare) charging sessions. Or I take a walk and literally stretch my legs if I’m on a roadtrip. I can’t image desperately needing YouTube or something else to watch for the 20 min or so that I’m connected to the EVSE.
While it is a fact that 6>5, I don’t think that means higher sales of purple = popularity. Yellow was dropped for low uptake. Purple dies on the vine. It’s a complete non-starter for a company seeking to reduce its COGS and release its cars as inexpensively as possible.
This is reminiscent of specialized colors like Mary Kay pink.
The metallic component makes me think this isn’t anything Rivian is planning on offering the public, but is simply a one-off custom paint job. I seriously doubt it has the broad appeal to warrant offering the color. Rivian’s ethos...
It’s true that VW compensating the dealers for Scout service work is plus business for the back of the dealership, but that assumes the dealers are placated. They see direct-sales as an existential threat to their business, to the extent that some states still have restrictions on Tesla...
Thank you. I was writing in haste while at work, and proved once again I can’t multitask for shit. The comment about UIX was supposed to be a negative, that UIX wasn’t part of the deal and would be differentiator. My fingers typed just the opposite. Stupid fingers…
Hmmm…Tesla opened the Supercharger network to non-Tesla brands: Ford, Rivian, GM, Volvo, Polestar, soon VW/Porsche/Audi and Hyundai/Kia. The SC network was a distinct advantage Tesla had over its competitors, whose customers were flailing with broken L3 EA, EVgo, etc locations left and right...
We apparently married the same woman. I keep explaining that when I’m driving the iPhone proactively goes into Driving mode with Do Not Disturb to prevent distractions.
If I was connected to CarPlay, the text would have been read to me by Siri after announcing its arrival (as in wife’s Audi)...
That tracks. I took delivery around Memorial Day and received the official Tesla adapter in early Dec. I have used it one time. The arrival was a matter of a few days after I received my Typhoon Pro because my original A2Z Typhoon was recalled. My frunk carries the Typhoon Pro, the Tesla/CCS...
Yeah, not really.
I had the A2Z before Rivian ever announced it was eligible to access the SC network, but I “filled up” at home or at CCS locations easily prior to then. Access to SC network is *in addition to* the CCS locations already available. It is an option, not the only solution.

This is all very familiar to me, because as a long-time user of both Google Maps and Apple Maps, this was a move both of them used.
Driving down highways with long, parallel access points for highway exits and on-ramps (“Exit 32 A-C”, for example), both GM and AM would direct me to get on the...
Won’t happen. A company clawing its way to reduce costs and achieve profitability is not going to sign a long-term deal to pay Google for its mapping capabilities, especially since Google will want the driver and routing data to monetize.
Part of the growing pains of developing a nav system.
For those who know I-15 between LV and SoCal, on the way back the software told me to get off the highway at Baker and take the service road into Baker. Ignoring for a moment that the service road leads into the Baker service area, requires...
Pretty sure the Android underpinnings of Rivian
Completely irrelevant.
Of the vast majority of cars using AA/CP, none have addressable car OS which is updated over the air. Of those which do—wife’s Audi e-tron comes to mind—the OS is almost never updated and the OS is shit. The auto...
I think one of the complaints is regarding on-the-fly rerouting due to changes in traffic flow/accidents. Do you see the native nav flexing the same way Google Maps and Apple Maps nav programs do?
I don’t recall Rivian nav ever offering me a workaround for an anticipated delay ahead.
