Pretty obvious legacy automakers influenced this heavily with the union language and price caps. Regardless, as a CPA, I very well know that it’s not gospel so we’ll see what happens. I don’t feel too bad about waiting for my explore model now to see how it plays out.
Hi everyone,
I have an R1S explore reservation that I placed a few months ago.
I’ve been a car enthusiast since I was a kid. My first car was a 92 Ford Taurus SHO. I then had a 95 Camaro Z28, 04 Dodge SRT-4 (modified for track days at Watkins Glen) then an 06 Civic Si and now a 19 Tesla...
The tire link they show for 20” is the standard all season pirelli scorpion ( https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/pirelli-scorpion-verde-a-s-plus ) and not the A/T tire. He even compared it to a model x tire… I don’t think the person who wrote it is knowledgeable on the actual tire...
Wow, quite pricey. I may go with the 22” wheels instead. This seems to be a reasonable replacement tire for 22” when they wear out.

I don’t think Rivian will be as bad as Tesla in this regard just by doing the math. If it takes 3 kw per hour to run the heat, that’s 4% of the model 3 battery pack. Whereas for a Rivian, it may only be 2% of the pack. So the mileage losses from using the cabin heat should be reduced in the...
I’m in the same place. I have an R1S reservation to potentially replace my model 3 performance and that pic looks as bad as my Model 3. I’ll have to see it in person.
This is an option if you want to keep your Tesla charger and don’t need more than 40 amps.
it’s good for road trips too so you can use Tesla destination chargers.
Lectron - Tesla to J1772 Adapter, Max 40A & 250V - Compatible with Tesla High Powered Connector, Destination Charger, and Mobile...
The kids get a bigger smile from the acceleration of my model 3 performance than me! I have to limit it because all I hear is “again, again” whenever I accelerate quickly.
Safety is the last point I forgot. It must receive top ratings. It would be a shock if it didn’t given the inherent benefit...
I have an R1S reservation.
In no particular order.
1. Interior space. Needs to fit 3 car seats easily in 2nd row and have room for adults in the 3rd row. Some sort of tilt and slide function with a car seat installed is needed too.
2. Performance. 0-60 in 3 seconds and 1/4 in the mid 11’s...
That plus the frunk will hopefully give sufficient cargo room for trips. I’m more concerned with passenger space in the 3rd row and ease of access which is why I’d want an XL R1S.
Ok…the point of my post was showing that the R1T isn’t exactly $20k more than the dual motor cybertruck. Depending on how you spec either, they can be the exact same price.
They can be the same price depending on options. R1T with large pack is $60k after the $7.5k tax credit. Cybertruck dual motor is $60k with FSD. R1T will be faster and perhaps have more real world range (tbd).
That’s my exact thought regarding pricing and XLT with a few options being the sweet spot. I get that they want people to go for the higher trims. For me, the explore trim Rivian has plenty to make me happy.
