They absolutely should try to cannibalize sales. R1 costs so much more because of complexity. If that complexity isn't adding value for customers R1 can die or evolve.
If they don't do it, some other company will do it for them.
Just because we get used to it doesn't make it better. If all apps on phone were available on Rivian, I wouldn't complain. But that in no reality.
I adapted and started using Alexa for audio books and Amazon Music. Now Rivian wants to change that. I won't be updating if they kill Alexa.
Laminated glass is very hard/impossible to break out of, in case of accident. It's not necessarily done to save money.
The car can be quieter though. I wish they used acoustic tires and used more road noise insulation.
IMO, the problem isn't that there was a problem with parking brake. Things break, whether it's a Lexus or Rivian - different failure rates of course. The problem is that a problem with parking brake is enough to disable the vehicle. Imagine being stuck hundreds or thousands of miles in middle...
It wasn't designed for off-road when it launched in 2016. Our 2017 has terrible off-road ability, my AWD TL can do better. They improved it in next few years when everyone wanted to have an off-road vehicle/image, but never lifted the suspension. It also got an off-road mode, don't recall the...
Electricity prices are rising too. 2022 - 2028, they will close to double.
R1 costs about 11 cents in electricity. Our gas only ICE costs 30 cents. If it was hybrid, it would be a 30 mpg and 20 cents. I also pay $225 for everything fee, in addition to huge upfront cost. I didn't buy R1 to save...
I believe Michelins are less efficient for a start. Also new tires are less efficient than old tires afaik. They would be heavier for sure and the deeper tread may make it worse too
IDK about your prices, buy mine are up 60% since 2022(when I bought mine) and they are on schedule to go up further 30% in next 2 years. Thanks to AI data centers.
Garage door opener? 😁😁😁
I don't know anyone who puts it as #1 feature.on a car. Buy a $30 remote and stick it some where, under the dash perhaps with some double sided tape. Way better than any software buttons. Some are valid points , but some are just funny.
It takes time and money. If you rush it, you end up with many examples like the countless failed car startups.
If you are talking about things like pet mode that already exist on R1 AND are promised, they will almost certainly happen. If you are talking about self driving features, I want to...
Great suggestions, but I would recommend against using breaker as switch though. Breakers aren't designed as switches and the may end up costing more in replacement than they save by being off.
Also, someone charging let's say once per year isn't worth the cost of the countermeasures.
Rivian CEO and almost every other CEO would love to be a trillionaire and replace all workers with robots. Two things stopping them for now, they can't do it yet with current technology and they are worried about crashing the economy and there will be no one left to buy their products. I don't...
