Also... instead of spending all this $ on Autonomy, why doesn't Rivian invest in ways to make the cars either:
1) better (you be the judge of what that means to you)
2) more affordable (ditto)
Nah, pass. A few times I've used 'hands free' in my R1 and previously Model Y when I was on a long straight highway and wanted to unwrap a snickers or something.
Humans are getting lazy. Its a car ... its meant to be driven. Otherwise get a chauffeur and sit in the back.
RJ is a great communicator IMO. He doesn't over-hype but you feel his passion. He's a geeky engineer after all and I think he's 100% the right person to lead Rivian. He just needs to keep a great team around him.
A great example for companies of how to turn a negative into many positives. The minor cost to Rivian has just bought them a tonne of goodwill. Good on them.
Agree. They will have learnt a loads from the R1 release and will be keen not to make the same mistakes, or at least over promise and then under-deliver. They're established now versus back in 2022. Only downside risk to going too soon and then having to roll back.
Measure twice, cut once.
I was told to engage and disengage AP/conserve when static. Other wise you risk damaging the system.
Equally, conserve mode gets me about 20miles of range versus the tire wear and driving dynamics of front wheel only. Not worth it in my book. Just keep it in 4WD all the time.
I think one of the best things Rivian (and many EV companies) can do to convert skeptics is to get people in the actual car driving them. When you see for yourself how cool the interior is and how smooth (and fast) they are to drive, it makes you re-consider. I drove a Model S back in 2017 and...
Impressive numbers from Tesla (no surprise given their time in the market) but I would think of the R1 more in the Model S or X category. Overall pretty decent showing from Rivian.
Anecdotaly, I'm seeing a lot more R1S on the road. Folks who want a truck around here tend to go full size gas...
So looking forward to the R2.
just on the re-sale/no Gen 3 hardware thing… I’m not so sure your value will be much less. I say that as someone who has typically owned fully loaded cars and whenever I trade them in or sell them private, the buyers never give a shit about those features. Bit like...
let’s be fair, it’s not obsolete. It’s obsolete when we chose a different mode of transport altogether!
Remember its still a car. It’ll still do car stuff. It’ll still have the current level of driver safety cruise control stuff. If you don’t need a car to drive for you, why wait?
I for one owuld be happy if all this driver assist/autonomy stuff was locked behind a paywall because I hate all that shit. Modern cars are constantly telling you off or trying to drive for you. No thanks, not for me.
