  1. Nice Review R1S vs Model X

It's true that not everyone has heard of the NACS network opening up, and that is a big change. But it's also true that there's an awful lot of NACS stations that are still Tesla-specific. If I look at available Tesla stations in my area from my Rivian, I only see a fraction of the stations...
  2. Ford Says Large Electric Trucks And SUVs Have 'Unresolvable' Problems

I believe Farley is correct that having the most range in the least efficient vehicles is a serious challenge. But I also think Ford waited too long to secure battery supply, and now what they have is too little and too expensive - this may be more of a challenge for Ford than other companies...
  3. PRODUCT UPDATE! YELLOW Jack Point Identifier w/3M Adhesive $13.95

I got mine a few days ago; I was hoping for a warm day but the forecast doesn't look promising so I turned on the heater in the garage, did some work on my bike and put these decals on. They are exactly what I'd hoped for - thanks!
  4. Costco and Electrify America partnering for select Costco chargers

Costco was definitely an early player in the charging station game. The ancient charging stations were L2 inductive chargers. There was one at Costco's headquarters in Issaquah WA as well. The EV community was very appreciative of Costco's leadership. Somewhere around 2011, Plug In America was...
  5. Hitch Bike Rack's Effect on Vehicle Efficiency

Budman's data (and presentation) is fantastic. Note, though, that it's for an R1T...the OP asked about R1S. I would expect the hit to be smaller on an R1S because the bikes don't sit up in the airstream as much. But of course there's a large number of factors involved so don't take my word for it.
  6. Hitch Bike Rack's Effect on Vehicle Efficiency

I haven't done any testing with a bike rack on my Rivian. But many years ago, a bunch of Roadster owners compared notes after a group trip, and the energy efficiency of all the vehicles were extremely close together...except the one carrying a bike on a rack was 15% higher. That's WITH a bike...

  8. Any one regretted the R1S based on size?

This is a tough question that I often struggle with. I've always loved driving small cars, and the R1S is way bigger than anything else I've ever owned. I regret the R1S's size fairly often, like whenever I see a nice corner I could throw it into, parking or washing it, or looking at it's...
  9. 20” All Season - Snow Chains Cables Socks Recommendations

I did try the socks on my R1S with 275/65/R20 tires, and they did fit. But yikes! The link I provided was incorrect - size 74 was for my wife's car; I forgot that I ordered socks for both cars at about the same time. Sorry! My R1S required size 80. I sure hope nobody placed an order because of...
  10. 20” All Season - Snow Chains Cables Socks Recommendations

Here's the snow socks I got for my Gen1 275/65/R20 all-seasons: ISSE Truck Socks size 80 (link corrected; thanks Dave Cundiff for noting the original error). I don't think that will fit the 33"s though. Note the price is in CAD.
  11. Charging Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra with Rivian R1T outlet

I bought the same power supply as Ratchickens. It arrived yesterday, and I got everything wired up today. I tested everything stepwise: 120V household AC to the power supply turns the light on and puts out a very steady 100V on the DC output terminals. Perfect I dialed down the output volts to...
  12. Charging Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra with Rivian R1T outlet

Thanks! The power supply you linked to (I assume you meant 90V rather than 19V; when I followed the link I went to a "new version" 100V unit, though you can dial it down 10%) does indeed seem like it would do the trick and is a LOT cheaper. The one I had linked to has more capacity and so...
  13. Rivian reliability is a problem

This is absolutely the key. There are MANY things to consider when buying a car. Features, performance, price, operating costs, resale value, aesthetics, efficiency, reliability, durability, capacity, service availability, etc. It's easy to look at any one of them and say "that sounds like an...
  14. Testing 120V AC inverter limits

I have had this same issue trying to charge my EcoFlow Delta Pros over in THIS thread. Actually rather than shutting off the 240V output, it just ignores the 120V input. So I've been looking at AC to DC power supplies; the Ecoflows can take up to 1600W at their DC input ports. Very interested...
  15. Charging Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra with Rivian R1T outlet

Thanks for pointing that out. I had looked at EcoFlow's 800W alternator charger. I am sure the Ecoflow would be happy with the input, which is great. Downsides I'm considering: It's not as much power as I'd like to charge a single Ecoflow; but it would overtax the car (and be pretty expensive)...
  16. Charging Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra with Rivian R1T outlet

Thanks SeaGeo, there's several aspects I like about that idea: They're inexpensive, and I could get one to make sure it works before getting a second one My R1S has two outlets and I have two Ecoflow units so I could be constantly adding charge to both without having to monitor levels and...
  17. Charging Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra with Rivian R1T outlet

I am still researching this; a few minor things I've found that I think are getting me closer to the goal: XT60 cables are limited to 8A. But the XT60i can handle 15A. Which is important because the Ecoflow Delta Pro can take up to 15A (at anywhere from 11 to 150V, subject to the 1600W limit)...
  18. California aims to provide EV tax credit if Trump kills federal tax credit. Would exclude Teslas

I don't know the motivations of those that are proposing this; it could well be some sort of political trolling or attempt to "get even". But I sure hope not. Here's what I hope they are trying to do: help manufacturers reach scale. Launching a new vehicle typically costs an automaker somewhere...
  19. R1T provided power during bomb cyclone

My power was out for 3 days. Not all went as I'd hoped, but I was able to use the truck to replenish some power banks that I was using to power the whole house like a generator. More details in THIS thread. BTW the issues I had were with the power banks, not the Rivian.
