I've been thinking about the same thing. I truly have no use for a third row and am heavily leaning towards the 5-seater.
My thoughts are that those seats, mounting brackets, etc weigh something and they take up space, so removing them saves some weight. I don't know how much of a difference...
I see high-skill and high-wage mentioned, so I'm curious what kind of "call center" this is as those phrases don't typically work together in my experience. Either way, kudos to Rivian for not outsourcing this to India.
If Rivian didn't invite someone like Car and Driver, I'd worry more. I'm a car guy and have never heard of TFL before, so I'm not too concerned that they got snubbed and now have their panties in a twist.
I'll be curious to find out next week which publications did get invited though.
With Ford providing some funding for Rivian, maybe the Mustang slipped a little DNA into the R1T and it was just trying to hit some pedestrians on the sidewalk.
In my dream world, Rivian would share its autopsy findings. Surely they engineers are going to analyze every part of this vehicle. What I'm most interested in is what damage the suspension/drivetrain suffered from this impact. This appears to be the second tie-rod failure with very limited...
40 mph speed limit. Ironically, same silver Mercedes is visible in Google Streetview-

Driver probably was fumbling with the touchscreen trying to find a setting that would've normally been handled by a button without having to take his eyes off the road.
^^ Just wanted to stress this part.
There are plenty of groups out there, and within those groups there are a lot of different skill levels. Most are exceptionally willing to help an offroad newbie and show you around trails. Just do what you're comfortable with and try more advanced stuff as...
I definitely plan on removing the actual R-I-V-I-A-N letters on the doors, but I'm afraid removing the rear letters will leave the rear looking too blank. To be determined... I think the R1S will have to come off as well since I don't think I'll be okay with the asymmetry on the rear.
I'm...
I wondered about that as winches are notoriously hard on 12V systems. I don't know enough about converters and how they work with high amp applications though. Many 12k winches are trying to pull 500-700 amps through some hefty wire.
I thought the same thing, then I wondered why they'd limit themselves to a 12v winch and what kind of 12v battery they've got fitted in the vehicle. Seems like they could keep the basic architecture of the winch with a higher voltage motor to more easily adapt to the primary battery instead of...
Any information on R1x rotor diameters, front and rear? I saw the picture of the Rivian/Brembo caliper on the other forum, and based on the 5x5.5" bolt pattern, it scales to be a 15" rotor. Assuming a 15" rotor, a 19" wheel might be possible, but an 18" wheel is highly unlikely to fit. 19"...
I'm planning on the standard 21" wheels with the Pirellis for day-to-day stuff, but I'll get an aftermarket set of 20" wheels with full mud-terrains to swap as needed. I've had all-terrains in the past, and they just don't get the job done for me. It gets sloppy/muddy here regularly and...
Commodore VF2 as the daily driver (6.2L V8+manual transmission)
FJ Cruiser for inclement weather (manual transmission)
Supra for the really nice weather days as everyone knows old Toyotas melt in the rain (also manual transmission)
Current plan is to sell my FJ and Commodore VF2 and replace those with the R1S. The backup plan was to keep the FJ and sell the Supra and Commodore and get the new Cadillac CT5 Blackwing with the manual transmission.
Currently going with the R1S because the rugrat is supposed to reach 6'-2"+...
Sure, there's plenty of data they'd want to keep for internal purposes, but there's also data that wouldn't benefit competitors that they could still sell. I could be paranoid, but I'm one of the few that reads the fine print.
I'm hoping I can opt out of a lot of the sharing. I don't want...
