I'm not sure they can legally sell it if the VIN was indicating a specific model. They could say the SW unlock comes with it the car, but I haven't seen official guidance on how this will work. It definitely doesn't make sense for leases that won't be bought out.

Doesn't seem like theres any consideration for leases. It's 5k still per car. Since the upgrade seems tied to the account rather than the car, I wonder if anyone that purchases this will lose that value if selling? Wish Rivian offered this as a subscription for those of us on leases or not...

There are certain features that are behind the paywall whether or not the car is getting internet access through wifi. There's currently a free trial for the hotspot and video features since it recently came out. I believe that will end shortly and those features will be back behind the connect+...

OP, I don't think your Hotspot and Chromecast/Video abilities will work after the free trial period is over, even if the car is connected to wifi.

Tesla Superchargers might be the way to go for this portion of the route. Maybe Rivian gave up and the adapter will get us there

Understood. But the reply was for someone saying it’s solely because satellite takes more bandwidth… not because of licensing costs.

In the OPs scenario, the car is not using the data connection Rivian provides. It’s connecting via WiFi to the drivers phone. Whether it’s more or less data, the car is using the phone plan the driver is paying for, not the LTE connection from the car.

No C+, no update yet. Looks like Rivian going to make us have FOMO with the Halloween car costumes starting before we get the update.

I have a mobile wifi device as a backup device if i ever need it. In theory, I could just leave that on in the car, where it would charge when using the car, and just stay on when car is "off". The wi-fi network would be available for the car so I don't see why I can't peak at the cameras if...

Do we know if "Rich Google Maps place details" is available with just tethering? What is that btw? Anything that uses internet should not be paywalled, but Rivian seems to have done that with Satellite map views and Gear Guard Live. If we are tethering through phone or dedicated MiFi device...
