I share that concern, but am not qualified to opine - that's why I was hoping there would be a big manufacturer solution.
Also, my kayaks have rocker (curve), so three points of contact (three crossbars) is actually worse than two. Really, I just need a single cab-height bar and a single roof...
I couldn't agree with this more. There are many, many good rack solutions out there and on a truck, I don't want to be taking them on and off. I would like a solid cab-height rack for kayaks, lumber - like the Xsporter or Overhaul/Outpost. Proprietary systems are only great if they work for...
Thanks. I did see this one - https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/custom-cab-high-crossbars.6427/post-176007 - but it's been silent for while (guy says maybe September). I am just worried that if the mounting points won't support Yakima/Thule aftermarket, that will be a huge miss.
OK - a month in and I am increasingly frustrated with this option. The Longarm has a lot of play in it which is very stressful - especially with a glass roof to see the kayak movement. I added straps from the ends to the forward tie down points, but that is a lot of work to put on and take...
The Longarm adds 4' to the bed, but less with each height adjustment. So, at bed level it is 4'; at cab level or Rivian rack level probably 3.5'. The extender adds an additional 2'.
Today I picked up a used Yakima Longarm with the extender, which will provide stern support for my 16' kayak while the bow rests on the cab Rivian rack. Here are pix of the longarm on the truck. Happy to report that in the lowest position, the tailgate can be lowered. Not much space, but...

Hi, just got my R1T back from Superior Auto Shine in Tacoma. PPF on the entire front, A&B pillars, and upper tailgate section, and ceramic coating on the rest of truck. I am no expert, but the process was painless, look three days (really two full), and Raphael...
