2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition
Cybertruck design was a complete non-starter and a huge disappointment as I was hoping to get one when rumors first started circulating.

GM vehicles have always looked cheap and trashy to me. I got a work truck trim Silverado EV for a loaner last time my Rivian was in for service and it drives well and seeing 400+ range on the dash is pretty cool but I HATE their infotainment and the style just doesn't work for me.

Lightning was a contender but i kind of wanted a smaller vehicle than my ICE Ram. Now that Ford has axed it I'm glad I went with a company committed to EV development.

Scout Terra is actually what convinced me to get a Rivian. It's beautiful and exactly what I wanted but I quickly realized it was going to be a solid 2-3 years before I could even get one if they even got to delivery and the top trims might be too expensive to buy new so add on another 1-2 years waiting for the used market to develop. Plus now Scout seems to be going the way of Ford with the EREV push so who knows if they'll even offer the full BEV initially. My impatience landed me in the Rivian. Still have my Scout reservation though.

What was once a placeholder waiting for the Scout Terra BEV is now my favorite vehicle and I may not swap it for the Terra even if it's an option in a few years. Plus the Terra being a foot longer won't fit my garage.

my must have criteria were an ev with room for 7 and 400+ range. the only two options were the R1S max pack and the Lucid Gravity.

I went with the R1S because i live in michigan, and the rivian has superior clearance and bad weather capabilities. this last winter has been particularly harsh, and it was still 20 degrees even this morning. the R1S was an absolute champ in the 5 months of snow and ice we had here. i may get something more efficient for a daily driver in nicer weather, but i could not be happier with how the rivian handled itself in bad weather.

i’ve been testing the hands free driving on trips out to the lake and dunes. it’s been very good at finding and keeping the road in normal driving conditions. i can make long trips, arriving relatively relaxed and not exhausted from being on high alert on the highway all day. last weekend, we had really heavy freezing rain. the hands free could not find the road with the rain and mist from other cars. that was expected, but good to verify. so far, it’s been a game changing feature on road trips.
