Just so we’re all clear, the OP‘s truck was a 2023 dual large pack Rivian tried to work with him to find a Certified pre-owned like for like as a replacement, but he declined. Instead he demanded… A 2026 R1T, dual, max pack , with 22” black sport rims.

Additionally he’s requesting full retail replacement cost for his home charger, spare tire and tire changing kit, all weather mats, running boards and window tinting and the 4 tires he had on the truck. I kid you not.

He outlays all of this in his demand letter to RJ which he posted online for some reason.

Not sure in what world this would be considered reasonable.
What? No 3 course prime rib dinner?

Now with those additional details, he is clearly being ridiculous. What they offered is what I would expect from a company like Rivian.

Just for our humor, can you post the letter here? I rather not search and find it, adding more clicks/views to whoever thought this was newsworthy to create an article around it.

Most enthusiast forums are tough crowds, and this thread is no exception. Sorry to the OP, this situation shouldn’t have happened, and Rivian clearly dropped the ball. Yes, by the letter, it falls under insurance.

But offering the OP a comparable in‑stock vehicle from a trade‑in or long‑term demo would’ve been a meaningful goodwill gesture. Unfortunately, goodwill isn’t something you see often in the business world or on many forums.

I think you missed some of the clarification posts. They did offer him a comparable truck but he’s insisting a brand new truck along with other crazy demands.

Totally sucks. Why not make them take it as a trade in and ask what their best deal would be for a new one? Agree that I wouldn't take the old one back. They should try to work with you, but probably just giving you a new one isn't really going to happen since yours wasn't really new.
If Rivian's own insurance declared it a loss, then it would now have a branded title, and clearly should not be accepted back repaired.

But "cash equal to the amount needed to buy a same year/model/pre-accident-condition" is a perfectly reasonable offer. We don't know if that's what's being offered or not.

I read everything and would imagine if they offered him a replacement truck instead of the $33K repair, he might take it. We don't have any real facts....

Is it just me, or has there been an uptick in "brand new accounts whose only post is blasting Rivian service, with no photos or evidence" posts recently?

Is someone shorting their stock and trying to make a public perception of service being terrible? (Okay, I know Rivian service isn't great, but some of these posts are way beyond the 'normal not great service.')

To those that asked how often this happens, I have received a call from a shop to inform me that my car ended up hanging from its open doors on a lift. Not sure if it fell, but it was repaired and took a few months.

No more than usual? Some owners are just not active participants. They only join to post "OMG, my world is falling apart and it's all Rivian's fault." What car forum isn't like this?

That's not what OP said, that was someone else saying Rivian *SHOULD* offer that.

How so? It’s not what the OP said in this thread but it’s the actual letter the OP sent to Rivian/RJ according to @cohall

Delusional to draft a letter like that, let alone post it.....can't argue about that.
