Sure doesn't look like a slam dunk that they're the same. Sure looks a lot like the Pirelli tires have a much more significant break in period than the AT tires.

Probably that, and people with the 21- inch wheels are more likely to take their family/friends for 0-60 launches. Once that novelty wears off, and the tires are broken in, efficiency increases.

I agree….it will be interesting to see how this graph settles out. I’m guessing the 21” will end up being more efficient…though this data really is really insufficient for meaningful analyses.

This $hit is getting almost offensively decisive, 123,652 real-world R2 miles:
• 20” BFG AT: 2.81 mi/kWh
• 21” Pirelli: 2.78 mi/kWh
• Advantage: 20” by 1.1%
Yep! so-called “range-killing” 20” all-terrains are currently winning, you absolute sucking clowns.

That’s roughly 247 vs 245 miles on 88 kWh.
A terrifying ~2.6-mile apocalypse. Blood on the pavement. Truly the goddamn end of days. 66,000+ miles on the 20s, the claim that they carry some meaningful efficiency penalty is looking more and more like a delusional trucking belief system.

Current verdict:
20” and 21” are effectively tied. Probably within 1–2%.
The data is out here being a complete asshole!

The rolling resistance number used is the average of all OE tires... So essentially eliminating all non OE options.

I see nothing saying it must be OEM tires - the published specs for any manufacturer’s tires will include the rolling resistance and so long as it meets or beats the OEM, you can install.

Thanks for the AT clarity. Winters are indeed excluded, which would likely be my biggest concern. I run winters 6 months of the year and prefer LRR AS for the remainder.

It’s pretty sad, the R2 could have been great.
Range wise it’s just a 2016 Model S (75D) dressed up as a mid size SUV…that 2016 MS had EPA range of 259 vs 330 for R2…so compared to Tesla in 2015/2016 Rivian has overstated the R2 range by 70 miles, or nearly 30% over the actual range.

if Rivian can fit another 10-20 kWh it will make a big difference (match R1/exceed it)…
