September-October reservation folks: has anyone been updated to 4-8 weeks?

I haven't seen a mass number of invites go out today. Normally, r/RivianR2 is flooded with people showing screenshots of their order confirmations. Nothing today...

That makes me feel a bit better. And I now have one more week to agonize over the wheel size.

Curious where in the Northeast and timing between VIN assignment and pickup scheduled. I'm in MA and put my order in on the 18th as well. Got my VIN within a couple of hours, but still waiting to get delivery scheduled.

My VIN is 728X. I bet it was fast because of the midnight color choice (not in demand).

Not sure if it's the color/wheel choice or location. Ordered on 8/18, hours later got the VIN and an hour later got the delivery date 9/11. I picked ES/21. Live in GA.

It is interesting, the messaging they use. The option says "coming August", but when I design one with CC, the note at the bottom changes to say "Not available yet" - even though we know that some R2s with CC have already been delivered.

I could order now if I choose the "update to avilable options", which removes CC from the build. I can wait.

It's been that same message all month. They just did an "early access" for some people is all.

I figured my october-november order would be moved up already but it hasn't. This is good for Rivian, it means far fewer people are cancelling their orders than expected.

The EX60 is the biggest threat to my Rivian order but it's nowhere to be found either. The killer feature is the stereo and the dimming sunroof. I would not have any doubts in my mind if the R2 had a proper sunshade.

Idk why Rivian bothered saying things like prior ownership, reservation date and being nearing a service center mattered. Who they pick to reserve is just straight up the lotto at this point.

I don't have any hard evidence of this, but I think one major factor they left out of the conversation is logistics availability.

You might have all the boxes checked, but on the backend, if they don't have a batch of vehicles ready to ship to a specific region, they simply wait until the logistics are in place to move them. Otherwise, they would be taking orders and letting cars sit until they can bundle enough deliveries to a specific area to make it cost-effective.

Take, for example, the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area—there are a lot of us here waiting to place orders, yet there has been little to no movement that I can see regarding people ordering and taking delivery, unlike areas like SoCal and Colorado, for instance.

This is a good point, and probably not how most would think about it.
My understanding for the R2 shipping from talking with two sales and delivery reps, is that Rivian is using a lot of RAIL(trains) to get the R2 from Normal to West coast or east coast.

Most ppl are used to seeing the highway truck carriers with 8-10 vehicles on each.. But this isn’t how larger volumes are moved more than. ~ 400-500 miles IF a rail line is available. Makes sense.

And rail/freight rates have gone UP A LOT in the past several months as the cost of diesel has nearly doubled this year (for locomotives) and the highway based rate for trucking has gone up significantly.. that creates new demand based oompetition, and company’s have to thread the needle between expediency and price/mile/kilo. And there is overall just a general AVAILABILITY issue in that there isn’t much slack in the available “cars” to add the capacity that Rivian might need for all the R2 orders at this point.

And Rivian is probably trying to thread that needle.

I could see that…if it weren’t for my coworker getting her invite before me despite not being a prior owner and reserving around the same time and picking up from the same SC. It just feels random.

I’m just venting though. I’m waiting for the Borealis anyway so this is just me being a sourpuss about it. I actually think Rivian is doing a decent job with the launch, all things considered.
