What tint percentage is everyone doing on their R2?

Here is California, the rules are rather strict. For front side windows, qualifying film must have at least 88% VLT itself, leave the glass + film combination at at least 70% VLT under the applicable federal glazing standard.
In other words, an 88% VLT clear ceramic film is potentially a very good fit for the existing Rivian glass. So, as a practical estimate, I could see roughly 40–60% less solar energy coming through those particular windows. But of course, the total will be less due to large windshield and roof.

I have the outside roof film from @twraps and recommend it. The side glass is 20% which is what I do on every car. Windshield as clear as possible, I think 97? The windshield also has the outside film.

Usually it is 35 or 20 but I noticed XPEL offers a 30. I am thinking of leaning there. I know the 20 matches best based on that previous thread, buy troopers up in PA/NJ get on us sometimes as NJ any tint is illegal and in PA 70% is the limit which is almost non-existent. I am leaning the 30 to be a "close" match to the back but still allow some transparency. Also going to do 70 on the windshield since you can barely tell with that but want the heat rejection.

I've found the shops don't carry 30 at least around me. It's 20 or 35 only as an option. I would like 30 also.

It depends where you are. I have 15% on my front windows (I like some privacy) and I only felt like it’s dark when I lived in the south. I could see, but I would have to roll my window down to turn when I was on dark roads.
I live in California now and streets are lit up a lot more. I can see just fine.

In California a front side window tint that dark is clearly illegal as it is in most states….and I would argue dangerous when driving in dark rural areas. To each their own but should you become involved in an accident, especially where you’re at fault, all it takes is a half way decent lawyer to associate illegal tinting and poor visibly as part of caustion. Better have a big umbrella policy and be prepared for a ticket and a fine.

I agree with you @windshieldfarmer . It was a personal choice and I know I assumed the risks. Once I get my R2, I will probably go a little lighter just to avoid attention to my tint from CHP.

In my state, enforcement of tint has simply disappeared. Friends, other car people, and I had a number of hassles over it in the 90s, maybe early 2000s, then nothing. I drive to CA regularly and haven't had an issue. Driving like an asshole and getting attention may get this looked at too, but doesn't seem to be any sort of primary enforcement.

Here in Ohio it's 50% is legal....I run one shade ILLEGAL! 35%. with no issues. darker, but not too dark. NEVER do the front window either...just my thing.

I did 30% on the driver passager front. I did 70% on the rears and back window and 50% on the entire windshield. It looks Great. I used EXPL

I always find this interesting. I occasionally watch YouTube videos of various police departments that record their traffic stops. There was one for Utah highway patrol that pulled someone over and mentioned the tint as one of the reasons for being pulled over. The driver they pulled over was from out of state (Nevada). I think it is ridiculous that this would even be a consideration for an out of state driver and was primarily just an excuse to pull the person over.

As someone who lives in a hot state, I'm not going to stop at the border of Utah, peel off my tint, drive through the state, only to reapply it when I leave. Normally this is something where even if its not explicitly stated in the law, jurisdictions have always had discretion of which they understood didn't make sense to apply it to an out of state driver.
