They might be able to eek out a few more percent with a more efficient drive train, but there is no way to overcome the size of the R1. They did some great aerodynamic work on the huge brick, but it is still a huge brick. To truly hit 400 miles of highway range in the R1 body style, a bigger battery is required. (Or driving slower, but I can't do that.)I agree with your goal of having a true 400-mile highway range vehicle, but 2.4 miles per kWh seems really inefficient to me. I also agree that having a better energy density battery would be great - both are right direction. Again, I know this won't be a sedan like Lucid or Tesla, but it seems like there's mechanical inefficiency more here. Or is aerodynamic efficiency the biggest factor? It would be interesting to see some data on whether Rivian motors inherently are as efficient as someone like Lucid or Tesla or Porsche, operated at, say, highway speeds, independent of aerodynamics.
