I agree with your goal of having a true 400-mile highway range vehicle, but 2.4 miles per kWh seems really inefficient to me. I also agree that having a better energy density battery would be great - both are right direction. Again, I know this won't be a sedan like Lucid or Tesla, but it seems like there's mechanical inefficiency more here. Or is aerodynamic efficiency the biggest factor? It would be interesting to see some data on whether Rivian motors inherently are as efficient as someone like Lucid or Tesla or Porsche, operated at, say, highway speeds, independent of aerodynamics.
They might be able to eek out a few more percent with a more efficient drive train, but there is no way to overcome the size of the R1. They did some great aerodynamic work on the huge brick, but it is still a huge brick. To truly hit 400 miles of highway range in the R1 body style, a bigger battery is required. (Or driving slower, but I can't do that.)

When the R1 has higher drag coefficient than even Ford or Chevy or Ram, you have to suspect they are designing more for a style or look. Increasing slope of hood would also improve visibility towards the front, look at the G-wagon and how much easier it is to see what's going on when rock climbing.

Yes, you are correct, I got my Cd scores backwards. The R1T is evidently the most aerodynamic electric pick-up on the market, but I am wondering if much of that score is in low suspension mode, aero wheels, etc. . The upcoming Nissan Ariya crossover is expected to have .297 Cd.

But could some tweaks further improve the aerodynamics? I would still think so, but the real question is how would the market react to optimized aero if it makes the truck look unconventionally "weird"?

The market would react like you see it reacting to the Cybertruck.

That's a curious vehicle, if the sides droped down like on the Honda Acty, I would predict it to be a massive hit, although the clever way the bed extends into the back seat to allow 4x8 to be carried with tail gate up is a trick I wish Rivian would have executed. The MT1's headlights are weird, but I like them better than Rivian's comic ones. If this is priced low, I think younger urbanites and suburbanites will snap them up.

The pop out cupholders look decent sized. I'm glad Rivian is finally doing something about the lack of proper cupholders. Although too late for most of us being stuck with the useless tiny ones.
