First Arizona R2 delivery to a non employee (VIN #1003)

I took delivery today of a Launch Edition R2 in Catalina Cove with 20” Wheels. VIN #1003. I made the reservation on March 7, 2024 and received the invitation to order on 6/16 and ordered that day. I am the previous owner of a Gen 1 R1S Quad which I traded for a Gen 2 R1S Quad last September.

I was told that my VIN # was low since it was initially assigned to an employee who decided to cancel their reservation. The R2 is every bit as fun as my R1S, just a little “cuter”. Rivian hit a home run with the R2. Hope you all get yours soon. Be Adventurous!

How are the 20 wheels and tires for ride, quiet, and grip on the pavement? Was thinking of ordering them to change to alternative tires when they're worn because the 21 tires are only available from Pirelli for a crazy amount.

Excellent. I also have 20s on the R1S. The Scorpions on the R1S do get noisier with age . I’m not sure how the Goodrich Tires will wear on the R2. Having said that the R2 rides like a dream and handles a little quicker than the R1, probably due to its much lighter weight. Mileage does suffer a little bit with the 20s, however I use conserve mode on trips and that makes up the difference. Hope this helps.

Any issues like charge port alignment, software, fit and finish stuff? I won't be cancelling either way but just looking for things I should look for at delivery. Thanks for posting and hope more early delivery customers show up to keep us informed. Looks great!

Curious if you can tell us the colors of the available ambient lighting and perhaps post some pics. I am hoping for red option.

Charging port is fine. Fit and finish is excellent. The jury is still out on software. So far the only quirk discussed at delivery involved the 2nd row climate settings. If you are familiar with R1 controls the R2 presents some getting used to. Controls appearing on the R1 at the bottom of the center monitor are moved to the left side in the R2. I assume there will be a number of software updates for the R2 now that consumers are receiving them.
I was an early adopter of the Tesla Model 3 in 2018. Same story. The learning curve for Rivian will be similar to Tesla’s in 2018. So far the R2 is a real joy!

She's beautiful. it appears a lot of people are going for the Catalina Cove color.

I first saw it at the Venice Block Party. I fell in love with it immediately. It looks so different is shade vs sunlight.
