Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
It seems to me that Rivian has cooked up some new colors not just for the R2, but for the R1 as well. Here’s what I THINK replaces what and what stays the same (for now). I also wonder what possible new colors they might come up with at the Georgia Plant Paint Shop (Coming in late 2028?)

Please feel free to add your speculations and requests.

• LA Silver gets replaced by Esker Silver. It’s a shade darker and looks more premium.

• Glacier White stays the same (What happened to Cloud White Metallic?)

• Forest Green stays the same. Classic.

• Launch Green was obviously discontinued on the R1, currently on the R2 (for now), but will be renamed Rivian Green at some point due to the partnership with Pantone, or is this just to make repairs easier?

• Midnight stays the same (Even if though RJ dislikes it.)

• Red Canyon getting replaced by Pacific Sunset? (We need AT LEAST one warm color!)

• Rivian Blue and/or Storm Blue getting replaced by Catalina Cove? I’d like to see a brighter/lighter or darker blue replace one of these, like a Sky Blue or a Dark Ocean/Lake Blue (Whatever happened to Laguna Beach Blue, R3X exclusive?)

• El Cap Granite was discontinued, but got replaced by Half Moon Grey (This seems to have already happened.)

• Limestone was discontinued, but gets replaced by Permafrost?

• Borealis stays the same, but was discontinued on the R1 for some reason.

• Compass Yellow makes a comeback as a Limited Run color, like California Dune? Unfortunately I don’t think this will happen until sales of the R2 slow down.

• California Dune was a limited run, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a warmer sandy color (not off-white, more tan).

Did I forget anything? We’ll see which way the color palette goes in the coming years.

I think Rivian has some interesting interior colors as well, which really sets them apart. I hope they keep doing these, even if there’s a premium price to pay. What else would you like to see? Maybe R2 versions of the special R1 interiors? I’d like to see something warmer on the R2, like an orangish-brown or a malt brown, instead of all the black and gray. The Wild Sage and Dakar Dust are a good start. Put those in the R2!!!

R1 Interiors:

• Black Mountain + Dark Ash Wood

• Ocean Coast + Dark Ash Wood

• Forest Edge + Brown Ash Wood

• Black Mountain + Brown Ash Wood

• Ocean Coast + Driftwood

• Slate Sky + Walnut Wood

R2 Interiors:

• Black Crater

• Black Crater Signature

• Coastal Cloud

R3 Interiors:

• Wild Sage

• Dakar Dust

Love these kind of threads. Speculation is right on though.

Launch Green will likely stay that way, just for launches and for limited availability. I foresee it gone on the R2 once the launch edition just becomes regular performance.

I also foresee Storm Blue sticking around as a R1 exclusive for the higher trims. I can see Dune and Compass coming back every now and then as limited editions.

I foresee revamps of the glacier white. It's just okay. A more pearl like color scheme for the white would be interesting and more inline with the color revamps they have done.

They said Catalina Cove is an R2 exclusive so don't foresee that replacing the Rivian Blue on the R1. They would likely discontinue it altogether and gatekeep the Storm Blue for the higher trims.

Exterior wise, I'd say they are doing great (compared to the market). They really need a warmer color on the R2. It begs for it.

Interior wise is where I think they are missing out. Bring back the Dune or some other kind of tan/brown color and call inspired by the dessert or whatever. Or a red brick interior color inspired by the red Georgia clay lol

I like your thoughts. I swear they were calling R2’s white color Cloud White Metallic at first. I guess it would have had metallic flake in it. More of a pearl finish. Unlike Glacier White, which seems very flat.

Catalina Cove isn’t the Laguna Beach Blue of the R3X, is it? Someone once told me Catalina Cove is more of a cerulean blue (ie less green than Laguna Beach Blue).

Storm Blue seems like a bluish-gray to me. I’ve heard many people say it changes color depending on the lighting. I think that’s true of many of Rivian’s colors or just auto paint in general.

I forgot about the Dune interior! That two-tone look was great. I never thought about a red brick interior. That would be really unique. It would look amazing with any neutral color. I love seeing a contrast between the exterior and interior colors as far as colorful vs neutral combinations go. For example, Borealis with a light interior or Glacier White with Forest Edge.

I’m an art teacher and former graphic designer, so I think I’ve got color theory running through my brain 24/7. I basically want to work with Sophia Park. She’s awesome. 🤣

I thought I read somewhere too that they had a different name for the white. Would not shock me if it were replaced down the line. I think it looks good now but IMO has more to do with Rivian's design language and less of the color doing anything for it. I do think all the original R1 colors will likely be due for an update!

I didn't think the Catalina Cove and the R3X colors were the same but in looking at the R3X again...I'd find hard to argue otherwise. I could be wrong though!

The two tone look is everything. I wish they did more of that. I assume we are at the "we need to optimize vehicles to produce and make profit" stage of Rivian. Which is great but I am so excited to see what else they have to offer.

Also wonder when we will see our first vehicle from RAD and I assume it will have some special color to go with it. Good time for that sunset orange to appear or a lime green or gold.

Edit: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/g28196287/wildest-paint-colors-for-sale/ - something like the Blue Glauco from Lambo would look insane in an R2X. Come on Rivian!

I’d love to see some crazy colors on the X/RAD model trims. Maybe they’ll borrow some colors from the logo or test vehicle wraps? 👀
