They must have changed that because it said on my purchase agreement it did. Only know that because I'm getting an IRS audit now over claiming the $3750 tax credit in 2024. Just had to send them the purchase agreement documenting the purchase price wasn't over $80,000 (so just read it again).
I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned directly from RIVIAN in Jan '26. The 7 day return policy is real but the clock starts once you finalize payment and take ownership. However, I would say do your homework. It's worth driving/flying to inspect the car in person and/or have a professional look at it. RIVIAN does not offer vehicle transport to another city/state. That's on you. Although RIVIAN does their multipoint inspection and honors the remainder of the factory warranty, there can be other issues. In my case, the CarFax was flawless and showed no issues. I later learned that the Trunk had rear quarter panel damage w/paint. Since the previous owner made no insurance claim, their was no record of it anywhere. After showing it to my local service ctr months later, they made me work with the service ctr where I bought it (Chicago) and ultimately I had no options. The Truck runs fine and I've had some minor issues fixed via warranty but I thought I was getting a rare gem only be tricked. I did save approx $25k off a new build w/same specs. Just sayin'
I believe the "sold as new" thing was for vehicles bought thru a specific Demo vehicle sales site Rivian set up, which no longer has any vehicles on it. In those cases, the vehicles were only used as loaners or demo drive vehicles, so they never had a titled/registered owner. So therefore the warranty kicked in like any other new vehicle purchase.
