Since customer deliveries are coming up,
I’m leaning towards the 21’s but I can’t find the tire size 255/55/21 anywhere online… I also read that the stock Pirellis wear out fast. I wouldn’t mind the upfront $1,000 upgrade for the 20’s AT if i
could save some headache and getting overpriced 255/55/21’s in the future.

What do you guys think

Regarding tire wear with the OEM Pirellis, remember R2 weighs around 2k lbs less than R1 which will have a significant impact on wear. Also, this is going to be a high volume vehicle so tire manufacturers will eventually have more options for the 21”.

Michelins. We love that as our pirellis alternative .

Ha Ha Ha

My Mini Countryman came with Pirelli tires, there were a POS and wore out super fast. Never Again is my motto on Pirelli

That being said, an R1S owner friend (he also had an R1T) told me to not get the 21 inch wheels in a discussion. I was always leaning towards the 20’s anyway for tires choices as we switch from summer to snow to summer every year. So lack of tire choices is not an option.

I agree, $1000 upfront to save money through the life of the vehicle.

I wish they were not AT tires on the 20’s, but will have to live with it.

From Atomic Wheels I'm getting the same custom 22 inch wheels I have on my R1S Quad with the R2 bolt pattern.

I'm enjoying the efficiency from my Nokian one HT (2.64) All season tires and expect better of the same from the R2 since they're 2,000lbs lighter when compared to R1S Quad.

FYI -Atomic Wheels prices are increasing in 2027...you can pre-order and save ahead of R2 delivery.

Stay adventurous forever!!!

I have a 2023 R1S with 30K miles on it with 20” Pirellis and there is plenty of tire wear left. If one does not accelerate and stop and go crazy fast, the tire does fine. I do take it off road also and not just use it for speed bumps in LA! )) The tire is great off road so If I do the R2, I will be staying with the 20” Pirelli.

20's are the only option if you want to replace the tire with something else and not the wheel too. There's a few options for 22 and a few in 19 that'd also fit the R2, but Rivian isn't selling a 22" wheel at all, and 19s aren't available for a while.

One consideration is snow tires if you use them. I don't believe they are available in 21, so 20 will be the best option I think.

21 inch. Using them on my R1T and we have 3 different tire options here. Engineers seem to think 21 inch is optimal or would not use it, and the price is right.
