Hey y'all! Last President's Day we took our Rivian R1T to Fort Davis in West Texas. Just published a blog post about it in case anyone was interested in making the trip!
Believe it or not, we saw quite a few Rivians out there!

Back to work today after taking our new Rivian R1T on its first family road trip!
Last weekend we went did Houston > San Antonio > Houston, a route I didn't think I'd be able to do in a non-Tesla vehicle for a while. Good news, though: the ride was a breeze (sorta).
Let me explain.
Charging...
@evchris Update. It did not go well. They advertised a Rivian specific deal only for me to find out Rivian is not a compatible vehicle on their plan. Ended up going with Energy Ogre and they matched me with a plan that should get me .11/kw
@MrTookies I think it was just the hot day. Had an electrician come take a look at things and he said it was all good. Agreed though. My friend has a Ford Charge Station Pro (80 amps). The Rivian would only accept 48amps but just imagine!
@Crazychemist I went for one of these types of plans but I felt like they just jacked up the regular rates to compensate for the "free/cheaper EV charging"
@MrTookies Came here to say this. I naively requested a "dryer outlet" in the garage and got a 14-30 instead of a 14-50 outlet. It worked fine for my Tesla but the Rivian mobile connector doesn't have a 14-30 plug, just the standard and 14-50 outlet.
While you're at it though, I would also...
Interesting. I'm having an electrician come check the wall connector to confirm it's not electrical related. This battery is much larger than my Model Y so the slower charging hasn't been ideal.
Is anyone having their charging slow down at home?
Just got an R1T and I have a J1772 Tesla Wall Connector. The last few charges have started at full power but the charging speed decreased to about half almost an hour into the charge.
A bit of googling suggests other folks are having similar...
As much as I wanted to use my EVs for home backup, I timed it and installed a portable generator backup using my natural gas line. Not what I wanted but it was the cheapest, most reliable backup I could get in a pinch. Next step is to look into some batteries.
I take delivery of my R1T on Saturday! I ended up switching from Tesla Electric (sold the Model Y) and going with Octopus Energy. My Model Y made up almost 25% of my energy usage the last few months so it does make sense for me to get something that provides a better rate for EV charging. We'll...
