Just ordered my R1T. Any recommendations for or against a home electric plan/provider for Houston EV owners?

Congrats and welcome! It really depends on how much you drive. If you drive enough to bring your overall usage to more than 50% during night time… it might make sense to get a free nights plan. I have two EV’s and am on direct energies free nights plan for example. You could perform a base calculation on how many days you drive and the miles per day then multiply that by two. This would give you a rough estimate of how many Kilowatt hours a month you would add for your R1T. If you don’t drive a lot just get The plan at has the overall lowest kilowatt hour price.

Thank you. I will drive 70-80 miles per day 5x per week(400 mile/wk), so my estimate would be 800 kWh/week or 3440 kWh/month.

@Crazychemist I made a mistake, should have said divide by two. You get about 2Miles per kW/h. So 200kW/h x 4weeks. 800kW/h / month. Your other home usage should be exceeding that at a minimum.

I take delivery of my R1T on Saturday! I ended up switching from Tesla Electric (sold the Model Y) and going with Octopus Energy. My Model Y made up almost 25% of my energy usage the last few months so it does make sense for me to get something that provides a better rate for EV charging. We'll see how it goes!

@evchris Update. It did not go well. They advertised a Rivian specific deal only for me to find out Rivian is not a compatible vehicle on their plan. Ended up going with Energy Ogre and they matched me with a plan that should get me .11/kw
