Hello from New Orleans!
Recently bought this used R1T from a Buick dealer in Alabama. Wasn’t planning to buy an electric truck this winter but this popped up and was a good deal. The plan is to drive it home to Portland when we do our seasonal migration. I need a truck to perform maintenance on our home and rental property, tow our 23’ boat to wherever with the dinghy on the roof rack, and basic city driving.
Just finished this roof rack and think it turned out pretty good. It’s sturdy, light, seems aerodynamically smooth, easy to reach and sort of sleek looking. It’s only problem is it doesn’t allow the tonneau cover to close completely. But since none of the trucks I’ve owned in the past 40 years has had a tonneau cover it doesn’t feel too terrible. I can still squeeze into the bed a sheet of plywood and the crossbars pop in and out in different configurations. When not needed the crossbars live in the gear tunnel for aero.
If anybody in the club recognizes the tree graphics on my fender, I’m curious about what that’s about. The whole truck, minus the roof, is wrapped in vinyl. Which I kind of like. This truck is replacing my old work horse, a 2WD 2000 Toyota Tundra. Quite a difference in the ride. The biggest difference is horsepower/torque. I think the little 4.7L V8 was less than 200 HP. And of course the Rivian being an EV brings a host of differences that I like. I hope this new truck will be as reliable.
