Charging Outlet install costs and electrician recommendations

I am in the Clear Lake/League City area and want to install a 14-30 outlet for charging. My garage is detached and has crawl space so it is a super simple and short electrical run. Weeks home service quotes >$1100 which seems excessive. Any on experiences or recommendations?

Reach out to Jose at Ensol EVSolutions 832-374-3123. I recently had them upgrade my main feeder to the house and they were best in terms of price range and quality / responsibility / completion. In regard to cost, it’s hard to say without looking at it additionally if you already installing something new, don’t go smaller than with a 14-50R / 60 amp breaker.

@MrTookies Came here to say this. I naively requested a "dryer outlet" in the garage and got a 14-30 instead of a 14-50 outlet. It worked fine for my Tesla but the Rivian mobile connector doesn't have a 14-30 plug, just the standard and 14-50 outlet.

While you're at it though, I would also suggest skipping the outlet and install something hardwired if it's an option. If it's not, 14-50 is the way to go!

My electrician friend charged me $600 to help me do it. Glad I had his expertise to avoid mistakes, but it was really easy. To add another for my wife I would DIY it.

Install a 60 amp breaker in the panel. Direct wire the charger to that breaker. Skip the outlet.

Agree ??, if you can hard wire unless you have a need for multi use.

I am planning to install 60 amp and associated wiring but installing plug and using rivian supplied charging cord. I will then install hardwired wall charger in the future. My main reason for waiting to install wall charger is I am waiting for a “smart” electric provider to offer better off peak rates. Some of these providers require specific cars (not Rivian currently) or chargers.

@Crazychemist I went for one of these types of plans but I felt like they just jacked up the regular rates to compensate for the "free/cheaper EV charging"

Electricity and level 2 chargers are pretty cheap.
