I have key cards and the wristband from my Gen1 and I'd like to pair them with my Gen2. I recognize the key fob cannot be paired because Gen2s do not have backwards compatible hardware, but I could swear I've seen that the key cards and wristbands are compatible... right?

Keycards and wrist band are also old tech and will not work on gen2.....
Not true. The Gen 2 manual clearly spells out key cards.

Gen 2 absolutely supports key cards. I don't know if it supports the Gen 1 cards, but it 100% supports key cards. I'm 95% certain they are the same, though.

Yes they have key cards, but gen2 uses new tech. I have 4 keycards in my desk drawer that service has told me numerous times will not work.
Have you ever tried to actually use them?

Can they be paired with another gen1 and are you open to selling 2 of them (sorry if not allowed to ask).

They can be used with another Gen1, but I am in Canada so shipping to you is not an option. It would be cheaper for you to just get a new one from the SC.

So I'm now going deeper and researching the technology in the cards and the messaging Rivian puts out. Rivian says two incongruous things: (1) the Gen2 vehicles have different tech so Gen1 cards don't work and (2) Gen2 vehicles NFC (non UWB) as a 'fallback'. I might be misconstruing some stuff and if I get time I'll go back and find my sources, of course. Basically I claim this is incongruous because the way they speak about Gen2 tech is such that it *should be able to* fall back to the Gen1 NFC tech.

I can validate this by scanning Gen1 and Gen2 cards with an NFC reader. Both read successfully as ISO 14443-4 cards with NXP Mifare DESFire EV3 4k meaning any NFC reader can detect them. Now, why do I care? Well, from what I can tell so far it's not a literal hardware tech difference that forces Gen2 vehicles to require new keys, it's a software choice in Gen2 to specifically exclude Gen1 keys (if the statements about "gen2 vehicles can fall back to NFC when necessary" are true, then I can infer the Gen2 vehicles are willfully deciding not to read the Gen1 key, if that makes sense).

If they are the same card, there should be no difference, unless Rivian decided to use a different key format. It'd be really difficult to re-key the cards in order to get them to work.
