Jealous of your planned trip ... was in Yellowstone (fly into Jackson, stayed in Big Sky) and can't wait to go back ... ideally in my R1T. Agree with the above comments staying in Gardnier would be a great option with the RAN there and regardless of the EV use case ... If (when) I was to do another trip there I will be staying in the Northwest quadrant of the park. Good luck and report back your findings.

Anyone use the city lvl 3 charger in Island Park?

https://www.plugshare.com/location/547222

There are a ton of great Airbnb's in that area without their own EV chargers, but if this location worked well, I could fill up there each evening.

Thanks!

I’m currently in Yellowstone, but due to the lack of charging options, decided to fly into Jackson, spend some time in grand Teton, and we’ll be leaving from Bozeman. I’ve been looking around and, at least the way we are managing the trip, I cannot see a way to do everything we have done here if we had our R1 instead of a rental car.
Ps: I’ve only seen 1 R1S throughout my whole trip so far.

Kinda sad to read that.

One thing I'll note, with a 8 month old, we probably won't push things each day as far as distance, etc. I'm just wondering how much we can do on a full charge each day....I guess at a few of the stops in the park, there are lvl 2s which would help a little.

I have NOT used it, but I've noticed that its Plugshare ratings are a little better than when I was in the area last year. Administratively, it's in the same boat as the Ashton and Driggs chargers (pre-emptively go to Rionadi web site, create account, enter credit card info, etc.). (My impression with many of these "off-brand" chargers is that people accustomed to SuperChargers, RANs, etc. get frustrated when things don't work the first time and/or don't know how to read and follow directions, so even workable chargers tend to get lower scores.)

If one camps, the campground at Signal Mountain (GTNP) is crucial to what I do in the area; a night or two there plugs a huge hole with its 50-amp outlets. But plan ahead. I'll be in the area for about four weeks, and the Ashton-Signal Mountain-Gardiner Triangle (as I've just dubbed it) will cover me for everything I want to do (and have done in the past).

So I've found 2 places in Island Park, ID that are within 30 mins of the entrance of the park AND have lvl 2 chargers.

I'm assuming that would be enough for us to feel pretty confident in the trip.

I certainly don’t want to discourage you. In fact, I have seen several teslas around, including a cybertruck charging at the RAN in Gardiner. We have been driving a lot. The distances are not as bad, so maybe you’ll be fine, but even after almost 3 years of having my truck, I’m one of those people who stress like hell about range 😁

Oh I don't have a lick of range anxiety thankfully haha. Living in MN I've only had one time when it was -10 and we were coming home from the cabin that I was a "bit" concerned.

I head to the Jackson Hole area soon and decided to fly in and rent a vehicle instead of a road trip. I worried about the limited number of chargers and having to wait to charge. Our AirBnB doesn’t have a charger, unfortunately.

I just drove 1200 miles from Denver to Banff through central Wyoming and Montana. Yellowstone is charger dense compared to those areas. I usually charge based upon standard as I know I can save electrons switching to conserve. But Casper to Billings was 277 miles between chargers with nothing reliable or level 3 between. Trump really hurt charger infrastructure build out. It’s a shame.

I will be spending time in Jackson and as long as you have access to overnight charging it’s not an issue.

There is a charger in Sheridan at the Jeep dealership, but it is not overly quick. Better than nothing. I think Tesla may be putting a station in Buffalo which would be nice. That is a difficult stretch of road. I come from MN.

when I drove through Sheridan that charger had a line of waiting cars.

I understand why. IT is the only charger for 277 miles like you said. I charged there twice last year and no wait. :) More EV's means more chargers are needed especially in that area.

An update to anyone who cares lol...

I've booked two Airbnb's, both with EV charging. A house for 2 nights in Driggs, ID, and a house in Island Park, ID for 4 nights. Starting the charge planning now. Going from Minneapolis to Driggs first with overnights in Bismark, ND and Bozeman, MT.

The only hotel that really has decent lvl 2 charging in Bismark is a dumpy Days Inn, so I might just have to use the SC in Bismark instead of overnight charging.

There is a RAN and hotel charging in Bozeman.

As far as days in the park, I'm guessing I won't need any of the lvl 2 charging because i can leave the house in Island Park with a full charge each day.
