I swear, if I get snubbed by one more CLEARLY new Rivian owner just cruising mindlessly down the road and ignoring my finger point/turn signal wink... I'm going to revolt!

My wife says I wave way too much!! (she also says I talk up the vehicles to anyone who initiates conversation about Rivian - as if I'm working for the company, but that's for another thread)

It just isn’t practical in places with really wide roads, high speed limits, or lots of Rivians.

Around here in south Orange County, there are many surface streets with 50 mph speed limits, 2 or 3 car lanes in each direction, and landscaped medians in between. If I’m in the right lane doing 50 with other cars around me and another Rivian is heading towards me in the same situation (50, right lane, other cars) then it’s likely that at least one of us won’t notice the other until it’s too late. Even if I see them and wave, they probably won’t see me waving and if they have tinted their front side windows I definitely won’t see them. If I do a turn signal flash then I could confuse other traffic around me, which is too risky to me.

Plus, there are so many Rivians here that it’s unusual for me to not see at least 1 Rivian on a 15-minute drive. I’ve been at intersections with 3 other Rivians.

On the other hand, when I’m at our place in the rural high desert, people wave all the time. It’s rare to see other people driving and it’s easy to wave and be friendly on dirt or low speed paved roads with one lane (or less) in each direction.

edit: typo

Yup. I'm mere 15 minutes from HQ. 99% do not wave or even look over. And, regardless of brand, general situational awareness of drivers is poor. At best, most stare straight ahead. At worst, staring at phone.

I still wave at Rivians when I can since rare in my neck of the woods. I've also been known to wave a keycard excitedly in early days when driving an ICE.

Got a wave from a cybertruck a couple weeks ago. Wasn't sure how to respond to that since I was already smiling and laughing internally.

Mutual wave between me (white R1T) and a white R1S this morning on my way to city hall
Agree that it was an easy wave being in tightly packed downtown

Very rarely do people wave in them anymore. Back in 22 every Rivian I saw was all sorts of excitement from both parties. There are lots of them here now.

If its an R1S, I don't even bother. Most of them don't know about the community or don't care. I have a feeling some of them don't even know what they bought.

If its an R1T, I'll get my hand ready but I won't initiate it. Been left hanging too many times.

Sadly, early adopter / enthusiast days are over.

Is it me or Ladies driving R1's are less prone to wave back? (Sample size of maybe 10 drivers... )

Ladies, if you're reading, WAVE BACK! :)
Not that I am, but if I were a lady and some hairy ass dude started flashing his lights, waving, and making weird hand signals, I wouldn’t wave back either. I’d probably head straight to the nearest police station to file a report. There’s a fine line between a quick wave and outright stalking.

In Glenwood and Aspen last weekend, lots of Rivians and no one waves, just a bunch of smug rich folk. In my smaller town, there are only a handful of us, and most all wave.

In SoCal, your hand would be continuously up. Rivians everywhere.

Sometimes if it is a Rivian in my neighborhood and we see each other often, we'll wave if we pass each other. But that's it.

I can see if you have a more unique/modified one, then you could be an enthusiast. A wave/acknowledgement there could be warranted if the other person has a similarly modified vehicle.

Aspen has an ordinance requiring mandatory jail time if you are caught acting like a commoner.

The kids and I still wave every single time. Hardly anyone waves back anymore.
