Visibility differences between default Panoramic Roof versus Dynamic Glass Roof (DSG)

HI all.

I love the idea of camping in the car with a beautiful panoramic glass roof looking up at the stars.

Im curious what the differences are in clarity between the default panoramic glass roof and the dynamic glass roof, while off. (obviously DGR on is going to be very different)

But while off, is there still a "film" or filtered look to it? Perhaps not as clear as a literal door window like how i presume the non DGR roof would be? Or, is it so similar that i'd be stupid not to get the DGR for at least having an option to block out some extra light with a button?

Im sure this has been asked before, but i wasn't able to find anyhting!

DGR, while off, is still a little milky. It is not clear.

You'll hate the dynamic glass if this is what you want out of a glass roof. It has a cloudiness to it that I think makes looking through it anything but pleasurable. I can't speak to its thermal effectiveness but I really don't like the way it looks at all.

edit: milky is a good word for it. yuck!

I grabbed some photos when I took the dog out so you can judge for yourself. Personally I'll be star gazing from the truck bed or camp chair.

FWIW even in “dark sky” places seeing the stars is kind of a stretch, without the dynamic glass. You can probably see some if you turn off all the displays, ambient lighting, etc but it is so tinted you can hardly see any through the roof. The tint is appreciated in the summer though.

Good to knwo, thanks @Andystroh. Are you able to take a picture similar to the ones above (assuming your R1T isn't DGR). It would make a stranger on the internet pretty happy!

I am not with it right now but I found these from the library. One better shows the tint, the other the clarity. It’s pretty cool driving through canyons and seeing the walls through the roof.
