I am picking up my new 2025 R1S Tri-Motor on Tuesday. Our electrician hurt his back last week, so he has not been out to install my Tesla Universal Wall Charger. I have a 50-amp RV plug that I can use, but I need to know what adapter is needed. I have been told the 2025 Gen 2s don't come with the 50-amp RV adapter.

Congrats!

Post a picture of your RV plug.

Your R1S will come with a mobile EVSE, and it'll have a 240A NEMA 14-50 adapter. The question is if that adapter is the same as the receptacle of your RV plug. A photo of the receptacle will answer that.

One VERY important caveat - just having the right plug and amperage isn't enough. Most of these RV plug installations weren't thinking about continuous load like EV charging needs. You may want to de-rate your charging to 20-30a until you can talk to your electrician about whether your plug is set up the right way.

Your vehicle will come with a Rivian Portable Charger, likely located in the frunk below the false floor.

https://rivian.com/gear-shop/p/rivian-portable-charger

Your 50-amp RV outlet is a NEMA 14-50 outlet, which should be compatible. The portable charger (bad name since the AC charger is actually onboard the vehicle) is already limited to 32 amps, so you should not have issues with a properly installed outlet. I would check temps of the outlet, wiring, and breaker after 30-60 minutes of charging to make sure everything is fine. Warm is fine, hot is bad.

Edit: saw your comment about the 2025 maybe not including the adapter. I can’t comment on that. I know Tesla stopped including these in vehicles, but hadn’t caught that Rivian did the same, if that’s true. If you don’t get a Portable Charger, I’d almost consider getting the Tesla portable charger, the full NEMA adapter bundle, and a Tesla to J-1772 adapter like the A2Z Stellar. This will be barely more than the Rivian and allow you to use almost any A/C outlet out there and automatically adjust the charging current for you avoiding a lot of mental math and “making it so easy your spouse could do it”. Just pointing out that some people don’t care to learn about the minutia of sweating circuits, so having that done automatically is beneficial.

14-50 plugs are by design 50 amps so you are fine if it was installed to codes.
OP only said they had a 50A RV-plug. So I was thinking might not be a 14-50. It could be a 5-50 installed correctly to code, or really anything else if not. None of those would fit the 14-50 plug adapter that comes with the mobile charger.

We had our Tri delivered last Wednesday. The portable charger that comes with your R1S has the adapter you need. You are good to go.

Did your Tri come with a key fob or just the key card?

Just two key cards. You don't even get the supercharger adapter anymore.

14-50 plug and adapter as others said.
Regarding charging rate: A good rule of thumb is to stay 20% below the breaker.
So if that outlet is on a 50A breaker, charge with up to 40A and you will be fine - assuming everything is done to code.

You may consider just using the normal outlet every night, you will add 25ish miles overnight. Might get you through until your electrician can do the install.
