Agree, this is why I did a 2 year lease and plan to give it back to Rivian after that.
Nice! Leasing is not Available in my state.

I’d imagine going from a very low vin Lauch Edition to a Gen 2 must be a huge step up. However, I think a lot of the improvements in cabin noise, suspension, and overall build were rolling changes Rivian made throughout the last several years of Gen 1 production. The suspension alone has gone through at least half a dozen part # revisions, with the late model Gen 1s likely having parts identical or only one revision away from Gen 2.

I have a 2023 Gen 1 Quad (Aug 2023/vin 18xxx) and the cabin is completely silent save for some passenger side wind noise above 40mph. Ride quality is also good, with no weird suspension noises.

I’m guessing those coming from a late model Gen 1 won’t notice much difference in terms noise/ride quality of a Gen 2. However, the updated cameras and ADAS on the Gen 2s would be an obvious improvement.
I had a VIN 7xxx gen 1 that was pretty noisy (wind primarily). Then I had a VIN 15xxx gen 1 that was better than my first one, but doesn't touch my Tri Max. I have same config and the improvement is substantial. Coincidentally I have the door rattle and it is being fixed tomorrow.

I second that. I love the plates!

Great write up too. Safe travels this holiday season.

From what I can tell 15xxx still had some older parts, including the older dampers. The upgrades may not have happened till more like 17xxx. The earlier Gen 1s had the 2751 dampers, by 18xxx the Gen 1s switched to the 55317 dampers which is also what the Gen 2s have. I think 2024 30xxx Gen 1s had a whole lot of Gen 2 parts, with some even getting the Gen 2 premium audio instead of the older Elevation audio.

Coincidentally the mobile service tech was here this morning and I asked him about it. He said changeover occurred at VIN 13,000 or so. That's why my 2nd truck was better than my first, and the Tri Motors were "dramatically" (his term) improved again. For what its worth.....

Congrats. Test drove the Trimax the other day. Suspension was great. Fit and finish was great. Cameras, etc.
Audio was ok for me. Cabin noise was hard to assess, there was a rattle coming from the passenger door that distracted me a lot ... My iphone pro max (whatever its called) still didn't change in the charging pad.

I beg to differ, as we recently picked up a Gen 2 Tri-motor and it's significantly better than the Gen 1 we have. I drove 5 hours to get it home and it's night and day difference. The Gen 1 Performance DM we have is a 2024 VIN 30xxx. So, it's a reasonably late 2024 build. We're ready to dump it off for a Gen 2. We'll see how long we can deal with it before we cave. LOL

I have a 2024 VIN 30xxx and can't say a lot of those parts made a difference from the Gen 2 for the Gen 1. Mine has the Elevation system in it. If they did use dampers in the Gen 1 that the Gen 2 is using. However, the Gen 2 dampers feel different and the suspension overall is quiet compared to the Gen 1 we have. My other half asks me, is there something wrong because there's all of this noise I'm hearing? I said, no that's normal. LOL
Just my opinion though.

Had that rattle in my door. There were some screws loose, easy fix and it's gone.

interesting to hear your perspective. We can’t do demo drives in WA so very tough to find a Gen 2 to compare to. There is a used one for sale locally which I’m hoping to test drive.

With regards to Gen 1s having Gen 2 parts, there was a switch in the rear dampers around vin 13xxx from 2742 rear dampers to 55237 dampers which are the ones all late Gen 1s and Gen 2s have. Similarly, the early Gen 1s have the 2754 front dampers and late Gen 1s and Gen 2s have the 55320 dampers. So the parts do seem to be the same in late Gen 1 vs Gen 2, although the Gen 2s have later revisions of the same part which may result in additional improvements.

Would you mind looking at the rear dampers of both of your Rivinans? I’d love to know what the part #s are, especially on the Gen 2. Certainly a 55237 but wondering which revision. Possibly 55237-E or maybe there’s an F or later revision.

thanks!

I've had all 4 dampers replaced on my Gen1 21xxx due to suspension fluid contamination. Suspension does feel much smoother now.
