A 2022 with 100 miles has to be a factory refurb, right?

I'm looking at one right now, curious what the last digits of your VIN are. Trying to confirm if mine will have Meridian (Rivian can't tell me).

I am just not seeing the value proposition of the demo vehicles. They are 10-20% above current used market price. Maybe since they are "new" they might qualify for the $3500 tax credit if you qualify, but even then they seem over priced. Not to mention, as soon as you title them, they are used and you are going to assume the depreciation hit and your value will plummet comparable to the other "used" ones in the market.

I think warranty and tax credits (gets an extra $5k here in CO) are the main incentives. I agree they seem to be around $5-10k above market value. Ease of transaction versus used and knowing its history more (and ought to be well maintained) are pluses for some.

Should have better financing options too, as some banks give better rates for “new” cars.

Good point regarding the state incentives. That might help out but I haven't lived in a state in a long time that has any and the federal one is pretty minimal but free money is better than nothing. That would be a plus. I got new car rates on my used R1T. I think it was 2023 or newer at the time and less than either 10 or 15k miles. It was another reason to push me toward a 2023 than a 2022. The interest rate savings would be about 2k if I let the loan go full term.

I got mine in May when the store first opened up. As a business purchase, it was eligible for the $7500 EV tax credit as well as $2200 from our Utility for being a “new” EV, which made it worthwhile at the time. Used prices have come down a bit since then (they were just coming down into the mid/low $70k range if I recall for comparable mileage. I also wanted as long a warranty as I could get given all the likely issues I expected to have with one of these vehicles (true to form, my truck hasn’t been without some major problems, but so far the Chelsea, MA SC has generally been good to us, and had made everything right so far with loaners and transport assistance).

I was also looking to get a truck with Meridian and 12V in frunk/under dash in FG with FE interior and dark 20s… which while not impossible to find used, may have taken a while to turn up when I needed the car (at the moment my Ioniq 5 buyback finally transacted). Gen 2 rumors pointed to an imminent announcement when I pulled the trigger, but given the likely cost increase and my need for a truck right then, my demo ticked all the boxes. I would maybe go used if I was buying one now, but I needed mine when I did, and it seemed like the best deal I could find. No regrets so far!

Glad it worked out for you. I started actively watching in August. Since then I can't say it would be deal even factoring on the $7500 Fed. Credit. I did it through my business, and even factoring the $7500, it still didn't work out as well financially to buy used.

You could take the additional savings (at least in my case) PPF the entire truck, or add in an extended warranty and almost have enough $$$ leftover for a set of Atomic Wheels. Or just keep in your pocket.

People need to assess their individual or business situation and see what makes sense. In my situation, a few months ago, it made no sense to go with a demo. Even more so if you have a high dollar trade with a lot of equity in it. At the time I bought, similar demos to my truck were 12-14k more than I paid. I think I ran every financial scenario I could. Buying used, demo, brand new, commercial clean vehicle tax credit, Sec 179, leasing, finance, etc. My accountant was definitely tired of talking to me.

I don't know if Rivian does rejected cars like Tesla so that was a concern for me. Just sitting for years is never a good idea.

Having the full warranty starting the day the truck is picked up, the $3,750 federal tax credit, low miles (mine had 27 miles on it), no previous owners, new car financing rate, and not having to wait 2 weeks for Rivian to transfer ownership into my name (in order to use the app and charge at RAN locations) made the demo option very attractive to me when I purchased mine back in May.

Plus, I didn't have many used options in my area 7+ months ago.

Meridian sound is a plus. I don't have a 12v outlet in the frunk, but do have one under the dash. (RV back up camera plugs in there)

No issues with mine either. 8,400 miles so far.

Mine was a Dec 2022 build with a VIN in the mid 15xxx range. It had the Meridian sound in it. It also has the 12V outlet under the dash, but was missing the outlet in the frunk. Can’t win everything.

Regarding the other discussion on why; for me, the big thing was the bumper to bumper and battery warranty started now instead of 2 years ago. I also was having difficulty finding one that matched what I wanted on the used market, especially with 3rd party listings being terrible (mismatched vehicle specs, so unsure of what you were getting).

I booked a 22 quad with upgraded wheels and all the fixin’s for 67k. “New” less than 100 miles. Where are people finding used for 80% of that with very low mileage? I’m seeing like 63k for 3-5k miles.

Just need to be patient and look. I lost one year of warranty as mine had only been in service for about a year. So I still had the same warranty (same years but more miles) as if I had bought a brand new dual motor.

When I was looking initially, I looked at 22-24 used quads. I narrowed that when my lender wouldn't give me a new car rate on anything older than 2023 regardless if it had never been titled.

I saw '22's with less than 10k miles in under 60k. Many had the factory tonneau covers, wheels, etc. This was back in Aug/Sep for reference. I had found a '22k with 8k miles, PTC, 20" wheels, under body skid plate, and Merdian system. They were willing to sell it for 56,9 and put a deposit on it. When my CU wouldn't do the new car rates on it, I went with my '23 for under 61k and less miles. The interest rate of 4.09% was about 1.5% better than their used care rate at the time. So in the end, it wasn't a big difference to go with the '23 and get more warranty and less miles.

I used Auto Tempest to search multiple sites (FB, Craiglist and others) and did it every morning. Super simple and saved me a lot of money for just a little bit of my time. You just set your parameters like price, miles, year, etc. and just sit back and wait. It took me about 2 weeks to find what I was looking for, but it was worth it in my situation. I actively looked at dealers in general as they were more negotiable with price. I'd also look at how long they were on the lot for the search engines that gave you that info. The longer it was for sale or on the lot, typically the more flexible the price is. YMMV or course.

Some of these demos have been sitting unsold for 7-8 months. I declined a demo R1S back on April 2024 and it re-appeared on the site today BUT with a $5K+ price increase lol.

The $71K price was my agreement price back in April - but I wasn't ready for a R1S at the time and decided to let it go. Today it is $76800 with no change in mileage.
