Hello Rivian Owners,

We picked up our first Rivian yesterday, a pretty Blue Dual Max. Impressed so far except the first thing my wife said was 'the stereo sounds awful, really muddy'. So I fired up the handy 'HouseCurve' frequency response app on my phone and got the following with the default settings. Way high in the mid-bass and brutally low at 500hz (women's singing voice!!) and 1-2khz!

I tried using the EQ to dial that in as follows.

Rivian R1T R1S Tips to improve the sound of Base Audio in Gen 2 R1S? adjustment

That made it sound and measure much better but it didn't have the adjustment range to fill the 2khz hole.

We wanted the Premium Audio but were told if we wanted our early reservation pricing we had to chose from vehicles in stock before the end of Sept and this one was the closest to the spec we wanted (blue, ocean coast, max pack). Any tips on further improving the sound?

Thanks!

Our friend @superfluid has been kind enough to use his expertise and equipment to find and share ideal EQ settings for each type of stereo in the past, but now there are so many changes it all needs to be redone

In the meantime I saw this thread for gen 2ā€˜s with premium sound where people are sharing what they feel are good settings.

Yup, lots of changes. I hope to hook up with @skyote this weekend to do Gen 1 Meridian. Then I’ll do Gen 2 Premium.

Any Gen 2 Premium owners in Austin willing to let me measure their system?

Thanks, his posts motivated me to try to a similar analysis though with the more amateur tools at hand (eg iPhone)! It helped a lot but as far as I can tell the car's EQ range is too small. I'm pretty sure Rivian could make this much better with a software update - though maybe they are intentionally handicapping the base sound to make Premium Audio sound better in comparison!

I have the Gen 1 Meridian system, but I was amazed at how much the last update changed the sound, which had been dialed in using his suggested settings. I can’t speak to yours, but I feel like these systems are flexible if nothing else. I would spend some time sitting there listening to your music and playing with the EQ. I bet you will get it where you want with some tinkering.

Thanks for sharing. I’m in the same boat. Picked up last Friday. Love the truck. But as so many others have said the standard audio system is really bad. Almost feel like it gives me a headache/stuffy head feeling. Hard to explain. I’ve played with the eq but am starting to think that unless an update can address it we may be screwed.

Try the weird and extreme EQ settings above then Apple Music ( as schellack notes) or high res music over BT cause we found those sources sounded good (if not great).

i’m not impressed an amateur like me can make that big a difference in 10 minutes effort, so suggest that we all file service requests so that this issue gets on the bug fix list for Rivian.

Just adjusted to these settings…much improved! Far from premium but serviceable. Thanks for sharing this.

Even w the 63 up higher for more bass sounds much better.

HouseCurve is awesome! Give it a try and you can get your R1S Gen2’s sound system dialed in pretty good. Prepare to re-calibrate periodically as your speakers are breaking in.
