Another fun read! I'm curious to see how quickly this title, post, and thread goes south ?

Russia's Kadyrov equips Tesla truck with machinegun for war

Aug 17 (Reuters) - The leader of Russia's Chechnya region, Ramzan Kadyrov, published a video on Saturday of himself driving a Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab Cybertruck with what looked like a machinegun mounted on top, saying he would send it to the Ukraine conflict zone.

Kadyrov, known for extravagant publicity stunts, heaped praise on both the vehicle and Tesla Motors chief executive Elon Musk on the Telegram messaging app, calling him the "strongest genius of modern times" and inviting Musk to Chechnya.

"We... await your future products that will help us finish the special military operation," Kadyrov wrote, using the official term by which Russia describes its war in Ukraine.

There was no immediate comment from Tesla.

From 2024 Sound of Silence Tesla event. Custer, SD. Had a gun mount in the bed (Russian style). Vendor is selling frunk gun mounts for various types of guns. To each his own...

I have seen two acceptable uses for the Tesla CT in the last week. The vehicle finally makes sense to me.. the perfect vehicle for all of the Eastern European warlords.

Too bad for the Chechens that the truck never really came with "bulletproof" glass.

As much as I’m a believer in EV’s, there’s some really good reasons the US Army avoids Lithium Ion in tactical settings as a matter of policy. At least when I was in a number of years back.

They are already testing multiple platforms. Mostly for base operations. However, quietness of electric drivetrains do offer obvious advantages for clandestine operations (e-Bikes, which proved very valuable to Ukrainian SF). So far, actual practical combat applications have been limited to small drones (FLIR Black Hornet) and high altitude endurance autonomous planes and airships (for recon and communications). Some have Amprius' slica-anode cells.

Yep. It’s an interesting topic. There’s no reason that the non-tactical fleet can’t completely electrify. It’s larger than most people assume.

I think the next generation of batteries have a lot of potential in the tactical fleet if the burny bits are addressed (it sounds like they will be). Making tactical vehicles as PHEV’s with ~50 mile range will do amazing things for force projection and reducing supply lines. It ain’t gonna happen for tanks and Bradley’s, but it could easily happen for Humvees and LMTV’s.

One of the most tragic incidents I was part of in Iraq involved a crash with fuel tankers. Reducing those convoys would free up a lot of force.

I also can’t count the number of times we were trying to be tactical and enforce noise discipline while being within 100 feet of some type of idling vehicle or generator. Quiet is a big benefit.
