Not sure why you say it's V-rated. It is Y-rated tire in all currently available sizes.

If Rivian's weight is a factor and is a special designed tire for Rivian only, maybe. For the Ascend, the front is 275/50/22 and the rear is 305/45/22. Don't know the load index but probably 115XL.
The Rivian 275/50R22 and 305/45R22 are V-rated Ultra High Performance, not the same as those currently available y-rated Max Performance tires. Those 20"s and 21"s are ultra low profile tires. Y-rated tires are overkill for the Rivian Quad.

Having a slightly higher top speed can be useful at times. Say you're on the freeway driving along and the guy in front of you won't go above 70, you want to pass, you put your foot down, 1000hp spring to life, you very quickly ram into that 110 limiter. 130 is still a responsible limit while leaving some room for passing maneuvers
You need to shoot up to 110 to pass?!? Wow. I guess I'm showing my age, here....I see no reason there is a NEED for more than 100 on public roads.

I understand the thrill of going fast. I've done that but in controled & legal environments. All the cars I did that with where designed for speed. I'm not convinced that the R1 is. Since getting it, I've been driving very conservatively. I have yet to try the 0-60 or hit the spped limiliter. It's a big boxy car and feels like it was built more for off-roading and mall cruising that fast and furious drives. I could be absolutely wrong as I am not an engineer or auto influencer.

I have no problems with the 110 limiter, especially for safety reasons. But, if I want to go on a track or drag-strip, I think that limit should be increased in some track mode option (up to near the motor/vehicle safety limits).

For the drag-strip it’ll have launch control, but unfortunately it currently maxes out before you hit the quarter mile.

Not sure I’d take my R1 to a track though, because it’s the wrong vehicle to enjoy a track in. I just don’t get the fascination. Imagine trying to throw all that weight around a hairpin turn. It’s almost like being disappointed that you can’t take your BMW M3 rock crawling.

I definitely agree the R1 isn't designed to cruise at 100. My hood buffets more than I would like above 80, and anything above that kills range anyway. But for a quick passing blast it is very stable and capable. Around town though it is perfect for driving fast. Off the line it is unflappable. 0-60 is as drama free as any car I've ever driven, especially anything with this level of power.

I usually drive at 125mph when going food shopping or taking the kids to school. Listen whats the point of having it if you can't use it.

110 is fine, haven't had my R1S over 95.

Here is the million dollar question.

Can I drive in launch mode permanently around town like on the Autobahn and on the track?
Please let me know when/where and I will cheer from the sidelines and film when they haul you off!

If the tire is the same model, regardless of size, it will be ultra high performance as you state. Michelin would not downgrade the tire and keep the same name sake. Change of speed rating is possible though, given the load index, but not the characteristics of the tire.

When Michelin officially publishes the tire specs, we'll all know. The official Michelin site only lists PSS5 on their EU sites (not in USA) and only for 20" and 22". The link you provide appears to be a dealer in MD, published data and maybe it's right, maybe not.

Clearly R1 does not need Y rated tire and V is more than sufficient, but there are lots of vehicles sold with very high speed rated tires that never reach the speed, even on paper.

The links I provided are just one of many. All have the same specs because they're the same tires. I'm pretty sure these are the Rivian specced tires. Those tires you referred to are the Max Performance 20" and 21", not the Ultra High Performance 22" Michelin built for Rivian Gen 2 Quad.

NO ONE should be driving over 100 mph on PUBLIC roads. Period. This is just stupid and how innocent people die. Go to a private track.
2nd this

I've been to many calls where innocent people are hurt or worst. Can't decribe the feeling of cleaning children brain matter off the side of the road or picking up faces off the road. Don't get me wrong I love going fast, but do so in designated safe areas(tracks).
