I was able to pick up some sliders from a very generous R1T owner who had his replaced due to a minor issue. However, EVSportline wouldn’t install them at their shop since they were 2nd hand. No biggie, just need a friend to come help install them.

On install day, I found out the hard way that the armor plating from the Gen 1 slider is incompatible with my 2023 DM. The screw pattern changed between models, but I hadn’t seen any documentation stating that on the EVSportline website. So the steps are installed, but no plating.

Do folks think I’d be crazy to keep the steps on my truck without the armor plating? The only thing covering the area that is now exposed was plastic paneling. FWIW, I do intend on taking this off-roading.

Hmmm, something is off, the title of this thread is not true:

EVSportLine RMaxx Gen 1 sliders not compatible with R1T

I think what you might be referring to is that you're trying to mix armor plates between different generations of sliders. Gen I slider components do not interchange with Gen II slider components, this is true and probably what you meant?

But to be clear, every slider we've ever sold fits every Rivian R1T.

As for the 'second hand parts', it is possible we replaced a part for a customer under warranty and told them to scrap the old part (instead of sending it back). In this case, if a customer proceeds to sell those scrap parts, that is not something we support.

So in the end, can you drive without an armor plate installed...absolutely. You'll concede protecting like you would with the armor, that is all.

thanks again!

No, the bolt pattern on my 2023 DM does not match the instructions on the Gen 1 armor plates. When I reached out to EVSportline support, they said they were not compatible with my truck.

The sliders and the plates fit perfectly together.

This helps immensely, thanks for the reply

It’s a bit tough to make out, but the top bolt hole should have a corresponding bolt in the frame to remove & replace to secure the slider. You’ll notice there is nothing there. This is the case for the majority of the bolts for the armor plating. I’d need to drill new holes to install it, not use the existing bolts like the instructions say.

Not to be that guy, but any chance or even possibility that the sides are accidentally swapped left/right?

Am curious to hear the final findings from OP and EV Sportline.

Ah, great news! this is just alignment....loosen all the bolts (slider) and re-center to line these up!

It’s not a matter of re-centering, yes it’s slightly misaligned, but there are no bolts to use. There are just empty holes in that frame with some material underneath. I’d need to drill out the material and find bolts to use, but I don’t know what is underneath that so I’m hesitant to drill.

As for whether they’re flipped left-right, there is only one way they fit into the sliders and line up with the holes. There are just no bolts in said holes to use.

Ah yes, Rivian deleted those a while back! We never ran into problems because we updated our design well before Rivian V3 production (sans those bolts) hit the streets - so the parts have always been proper fit for the models in production, and updated versions are always backwards compatible (it's impossible to make forward compatible designs, obviously, can't predict Rivian changes).

I'd run without the plates as suggested originally - or buy a new set that wasn't scrapped out ? Otherwise, you're trying to mix some old model year parts and it's going to take some fabricating.

That’s much clearer than the support was, thanks again for the reply!
