The offroad upgrade option for the launch vehicles was supposed to add the underbody shield, the tow hooks and air compressor. Rivian decided not to make the tow hooks and air compressor optional pretty early on. I would not be surprised to see both of those things turn into independent options.
Do you think there’s much value to the tow hooks (for us mostly mall crawlers)?

in Seattle had a chrome delete. They were shooting a video.

Chrome delete likely be an option.
Yeah I saw that picture but if Rivian produced hundreds of refresh R1S you’d think they would have made a couple on the lot with a chrome delete. Guess we will have to wait for the official refresh to confirm.

I’m a wheel snob, and I don’t think the wheels look bad at all for standard wheels. I like them better than the old 21s. Look at what Tesla and others have for standard wheels. These are much more modern/interesting. Looks like they come in both light and dark options as well.

Changes to Lightbar say one thing to me - EUROPE.
I believe it's regulation to have amber turn signals front AND REAR. The current design does not meet those regulations. Wonder if the thin line under the red bar is an LED blinker integrated.

These new photos are great. Still glad I took delivery when I did at the end of March this year. Not a fan of the wheels, but seeing them in person could change my mind.

I'd also be curious if the headlight bar could be upgraded if it shares the same mounting locations.

Comments on X confirmed that on the Seattle car the signal light is part of the fog light now.

I'd take them if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, even if you don't offroad. Recovering a vehicle without dedicated tow hooks can lead to more damage.

Mall crawling in So Cal though? Probably don't need them.

Are you kidding!! The parking spaces in CA are so tight, you have to wedge the R1 into it, sometimes you need to be pulled out ?

I think those rims are the equivalent of the steel rim you used to get on the lowest trim cars, back in the day  . The trim that had the hand crank windows and manual door locks when everyone already had power everything.
It's Rivians way to shame you into paying for the upgraded wheels.

Rivian needs to stop making rims with shiny silver finish. Looks kinda cheap in my opinion.

Oh come on, it's not that bad. If you look at the new wheels next to the OG 20" dark/light, you can clearly see it's just an evolution—more open and simplified with less material. Probably lighter and slightly more efficient too. Besides, all this belly aching over what is new... it's not like these are the only and mandatory options. And even if they are, there is always the aftermarket.

I didn't care for the 20" bright or dark wheels either.

I'm interested to see what the 22" aero wheels are though.

Somebody somewhere is already preparing to sell blackout PPF for those wheels. :)

Probably. I can't stand band-aid-like tchotchkes. But to each his own.

I didn't either, from what was shown through the online configurator, until I saw the dark version in person for the first time. But, ultimately, could not bring myself to spend more on a design that can get scratched easily while off-pavement.

Lots of existing cars have tow hooks, they're just not as stylish or obvious like ours. Typically in the undercarriage, a blent piece of plate metal with an eyelet, or a loop made of round stock. These may have them. Otherwise, dragging 7k+ lbs by the lower control arms is really not ideal.
