I moved from Tucson to Reno 8 years ago and I'd love to show my bad-ass truck to my family but a trip that took just under 15 hours in a 36' penske box truck would require over 23 hours due to lack of dcfc along the shortest route. There aren't even v3+ tesla superchargers I can't use until I receive my adapter.
Rivian saves southwest airlines.

Are you sure you can’t get there in 16h? Which R1 are you driving?

R1t qm. I find myself allergic to California. It's a crap-shoot getting through @ 65mph average VS 25. Plus, I'd like to have Vegas as an option to overnight since 17:27 barring a single hiccup isn't something I'm willing to put myself through let alone my girl who is still on the fence about this whole "EV thing."
Our governor put together the NV electric highway deal, had a small number of DC chargers installed then abandoned them. 1 short of enough for most EVs to get between Reno and Vegas and notice I didn't use the dcfc term.

sorry what? this is going down 395 in California. there is no traffic on 395 ever.... also you are telling me you would rather make the drive take an extra 5 hours instead of driving in California for 3ish hours? I think you may be your own problem here.

I agree with @Dmartin on 395 Ive been down that way a few times in my Rivian, no traffic if you stay east of the Sierra's. Also the plentiful RAN stations make it super easy.

I did Phoenix to Tahoe roundtrip last summer, took about 14 hours each way using 395. On my return, I did 4 charging stops, averaging 25 minutes each. I did 5 stops on the way up, because the truck was lying to me about my range, could have made it in 4 stops that way too.

At this point, this is all on you, not that there are no fast chargers on routes you would take between Reno and Tucson.

Someone offered you a vegas route already and even with an ICE, staying overnight in Vegas is probably a good idea. 17 hrs (even 15 hrs in an ICE) sounds like too much in 1 day.

A few years ago there was a hot topic on Tacoma forum I frequented. Several posters were upset re: how California does not have reciprocity with other states with regard to conceal and carry weapon permits.

Not saying this has anything to do with this situation and not sure it is even true, as any such law would not effect me, even if I were passing through.

But people there were convinced it was true and seemed very offended.

If someone with knowledge and experience posts that this is or even was BS, I'll happily delete this post.

Otherwise, it *might* provide an insight into why some people are "allergic" to CA.

Would have been nice to know in the original parameters of this thread. Getting there without going into California could very well be a no-win proposition.

I was probably put off by the rivian app which I understand is abrp powered showing me this.
Rivian R1T R1S Reno to Tucson... Can't get there from here. 1000002856

I know it's inevitably longer than ICE but I would have hoped 15-16 hrs since 13.5 is standard for ICE. It really turns a long but acceptable 1 day there and 1 day back into 2+2. That's at least 200 golf shots I'm missing out on!

What am I doing wrong? Add Vegas as a stop and I'm over 20 hrs.
Rand-McNally saves rivian?

The longer a road trip is, the more time it will take in EV vs ICE. Assuming the travel speed is the same, and that stopping time is strictly only for recharging or refueling, you will not beat a gasoline powered vehicle on a road trip.

Also, I don't use the Rivian app for planning. ABRP directly works better, and even gives more options (like setting the speed I want to travel at).

Hold on a minute, I'm less disappointed. I see that the abrp route includes a quick charge in beatty, NV. The lvl 3 there hasn't worked in at least 3 years. That's a 3 hr lvl2 charge. One of the governor's abandoned units.
