Mine only loses 2 miles per day when sitting. 20 miles overnight is way too high - read the posts about "vampire drain" to see how to debug this yourself, and if nothing works then schedule service to look at it.
Yeah I went snow camping in big bear a few weeks back and lost a whole 2 miles of range while my vehicle was parked at camp (which included running outlets to cook dinner and boil morning coffee)

Knowing how to use your vehicle and change settings as needed goes a long way.

If OP was really concerned about range they should have put it in camp mode and turn everything off to save juice for the trip down the hill

@scottie this has been out a couple of weeks.
Tom is the best for charging reviews IMO.

Arrived in Bishop with 56 miles of range, started in Mammoth with 98.

We would not have made it without the two charging sessions, so thank you to Tesla and the Mammoth Recreation Center for publicly available and free level-2 charging.

Totally feel the pain. Have been there at national parks, Whistler, and other places where you would think Rivian as the adventure vehicle company would have a RAN charger. I’m sure they will come but just wish these places had a higher priority than some of the RAN random locations. It’s the price way pay as early adopters, but I LOVE my R1T!

I understand the frustration. If Rivian would just put a normal gas tank and an internal combustion engine in this dang truck, we’d have no range issues at all!

I went to the gas station and NONE of the pumps fit in the J1772 or the CCS port. Literally none.
????‍♀?

If it makes anyone feel better, Tesla hasn’t completely solved this problem either. I’m in June Lake, CA in a long range AWD Model Y; zero public charging infrastructure here. Mammoth Lakes is pretty close though and those Superchargers are convenient.

Anyhow, was hoping to visit Death Valley on the way back to SoCal, but it looks like that leg of the journey is impossible as a day trip in the MY. I don’t think my 2022 LR Y can do more than 240 highway miles on a full charge, and that doesn’t appear to be enough range to see DV and make it to the next fast charger … any fast charger. If you’re staying overnight in DV there are a couple of destination charger options.

BTW, seeing more 1Ts and 1Ss up here than Teslas. People seem to have figured out the charging situation.
I was at Death Valley 2 weeks ago and it does take LOTS of planning arriving there with enough battery juice to your next destination wherever that may be. Death Valley is a dead zone for charging, at Furnace Creek there are 2 rinky dink charging stations “Blink”, no fast chargers in DV that I saw. My boyfriend’s DM R1S tripped the blink charger and chaos set in, the maintenance guy arrived to reset the Blink shared pedestals and a line was forming, we were trying for a decent 70% charge. The maintenance guy suggested lowering the amperage from 48 (what we use at home on our L2 charger ) to 30 amps or lower, he went on to say that “Rivians” take a lot of energy to charge, blah blah, so we left with 60% charge roughly 235 miles for our next journey (that’s another story…) We planned our journey to DV using the Rivian Network and it was flawless.
Just my 2 cents….

Forgive DALL-E's spelling, it's still working on it, but I think we need to start the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Rivians, rescuing Rivians from destructive homes.

Less toxic sidebar: does anyone know how to successfully tell DALL-E to fix typos? Every time I ask, they end up worse.

I agree with the OP. In fact, I’ll go a little further. RJ should have had the entire RAN network built out before the IPO. RJ also should have had a fleet of mobile charging vans driving around the country helping out people who don’t know how to plan their trips. Even a few helicopters should have been dispatched. What was RJ thinking ?? So disappointed.

Do Tesla owners thank Rivian in the Tesla forums? Every time I pull in to the Sacrament RAN all the L2 stalls are occupied with Teslas mooching off the free chargers.

I do software things
safe to say Elon is probably only in it for the money
By picking a name with “Standard” in it, one would think that was the plan all along. Ford just happened to make the initiative

When my wife saw the first promo videos for the R1S "Adventure" vehicle cruising up a mountain with ski racks and a truck full of happy passengers, she turned to me and said, "I'm sold."

Fast forward 5 years, I am looking at the R1S range 'snow mode' and the 93 miles left has to last through freezing temps tonight, tomorrow, and then the trip down the mountain to Bishop. Based on the range loss I've seen the past few nights in much warmer weather, I think it will be a pretty close call and I just don't feel comfortable putting my family in that situation.

So, in a blizzard, I jump in the Rivian with my 21" All Seasons and ask Alexa to navigate to the only public J-connector charger in town...a level 2 *Tesla* box at the Mammoth Recreation Center that offers *free* charging.

Rivian navigation decides to take me the long way around on Old Mammoth Rd instead of straight down Meridian ?

I actually tried to charge at this Tesla station earlier in the day, but an R1T was charging at the only box out of 3 that connects successfully.

As I make the turn into the lot, I see a Lucid charging at one of the J-connector boxes that failed me earlier in the day. The Lucid obscures the view to the one charger that worked a few days ago, so as I plow through a foot or two of snow, I am super relieved to see the working box is available.

Thanks, I guess, for the Adventure RJ, I'm super pumped to sit in this parking lot for the next 2 hours. A sincere thanks to Elon for saving the trip by offering a working charging station for a connector you don't even use AND for offering NACS to the rest of the industry (RJ, I was hoping the adapter would be available for this trip...but we all know, by now, the large gap between Rivian product/feature announcement and delivery is really the only thing this company consistently offers).
Is this a serious post?

You blame Rivian and RJ for your decision to travel to a place with questionable charging infrastructure (Including Tesla)? The RAN locations were known to you before purchasing. If you want to only visit places near them to make your life easier, you are welcome to do so. If not, you are on your own…just like everyone else driving an EV.

Why do you still show up in any thread associated with Tesla? You are fervently anti-Tesla/NACS/Elon, just move along.

PostScript. I had the time to post that story on the forums because Rivian decided a streaming service isn't a high priority feature. But I'm glad they have been focused on important things like Halloween mode.
You're on fire ? today ;)
