I just confirmed my R1S order from the Shop...

And my heart is about to jump out of my chest. Not from excitement, but from being scared. The anxiety is real!

I have never purchased a new car before, and in fact, I never intended to ever buy a new car.

I have never paid more than 10k for a car.. This is quite a bit more than that!

I am a car guy/wrench head. I love turning wrenches. My body.. Not so much any more. 1 blown disc, and 4 semi-blown discs will do that... And having 2 kinds under the age of 5!

Any words of wisdom out there?

Congratulations! I can see this being a mind-blowing first new car purchase. It was our most expensive car purchase, too, and I finally got to say that thing that mature adults say: This car cost more than my first house. Having said that, it’s worth every penny to me.

I hope that you allow yourself to enjoy your new Rivian and that you have at least as good an experience as I’ve had. If you do, you’re going to be VERY happy that you got a Rivian.

So a couple questions for you..
Meridian or Rivian Sound?
Frunk 12v?

When I was talking to the SC manager here in Denver on Saturday, he was telling me that there was no Rhyme or Reason.. They are still getting new builds with the Meridian Sound. Nothing in the build info sent to the SC tells them either. The only way they know is by looking at the door to see if it has a Rivian Emblem, or a Meridian Sound Decal.

I am contemplating taking the delivery from the shop their prices are higher than what my config...R1S is going to more than double the price i have ever paid on a car -- not so sure...it would be great to get your thoughts 1 week later -- whether you you kept it or not!

My launch R1S was 500 bucks cheaper than my build config, and came with the upgraded wheels.. And maybe a wrist band?

Did you know that to build one of these right now, the white, which was free previously, is now a 1750 upcharge?

Lulz. At least you (nominally) have a guide! Having just selected a vehicle from the shop two days ago, I think Rivian's (unspoken) advice to us is "Hurry up and wait." I'm taking the "chillax" approach, doing what I can to whittle down the steps; I assume I'll hear from a guide when Rivian has something more to tell me about approximate delivery date.

But I feel 'ya on the sticker shock. My wife and I are 58 and 62, respectively; between us, we've purchased a grand total of two vehicles for a grand total of $16,000--until now. And that's part of the reason I can justify this purchase in my little brain.

So all my steps are done, except for the payment.. I wont authorize the payment to go thru until its at least in the Denver area.

The rep said they are waiting for train to come in with a space allotment for me.

Let the bank know it could be December (per the rep).. The bank responded that it had better be no latter than December 1st, or I have to redo the loan...

I went to a Ford dealer, and was looking at a MachE.. They asked if I had a trade, and I said I might, dont know depends on numbers.. He asked what it was, I said it was a 2023 Rivian R1S Launch Edition. He did some numbers, and said, yea, we can do that. Trade in on that is 98300!

That gave me a little bit of a warm and fuzzy feeling. I didnt buy the MachE obviously..

Congrats! I had similar feelings. Previous most expensive vehicle was my 2018 VW GTI I bought mid 2020 for $20k just before car prices started to go up like crazy. Sold it 2022 for $23k! Partly as prep for my hopeful Rivian purchase. Meanwhile went back to my still great 2003 GTI and my 1998 Toyota Tacoma with 430k combined miles. So after a few extras (ceramic) my Rivian came in at about 4x as much as I'd ever paid for a car before.

I'm taking it to service next week for a long list of mostly minor stuff, and a spare tire, but overall it's been absolutely amazing and after years of research and saving.. I have no regrets. Almost 6000 miles and I've still paid $0 to charge.

It has such effortless power, if you're a "sports car" driver kinda guy it's hard not to hit triple digits, so be safe out there.

Most definetly a sports car kinda guy. Sold my McLaren a few years ago, love taking those Exotic Sports car tours. Getting older now.. Bending that low to get in and out of them is a little more than my back will allow! So it was Either a Rivian, or a Porsche. I hate Porsche. Favorite car o drive so far has been a Lamborghini Huracan and a Mercedes Benz GTS.

So I went over to AutoZone dot com, and punched in my truck, and searched for Brake Pads..

They didnt have anything.. But the way they have the Rivian listed is funny!
