Wanted to share my experience with the purchase and delivery scheduling process so that it will hopefully help others. In short, it was almost effortless and my R1S is scheduled to be delivered EIGHT DAYS after the "it's time to begin your purchase process" email that I've been waiting 3 years for.
Briefly:
- June 2020 preorder
-R1S, GW exterior, OC interior, Adventure package, quad motor, large battery, 22" sport dark wheel and tire
- I am in Louisiana and the closest service center is in Houston, approx 240 miles so for the longest time I was expecting to be waiting a while to receive my vehicle
- Delivery window estimate when the big updates came out in January was May-June 2023, then was moved to June-July 2023 when the updates came out in March
- Received the email we all wait for on Monday, June 18th saying "It's time to begin your purchase process"
- Completed the 8 (or however many depending on whether or not you have a trade in) steps by the next day, Tuesday, including wire transfer of the payment
- Got a text from guide on Tuesday that my R1S was in route to Houston
- Text from guide on Thursday saying it had arrived in Houston
- Text on Friday from service center saying your vehicle is ready for delivery
- this was the only, albeit minor hiccup; there were no clear instructions in the text message on how to schedule delivery; I tried calling the number but it's an "SMS only" number so you can't actually call it; the app and my account online still read "upcoming" under the "schedule delivery" tab
- I then had absolute radio silence for almost 24 hours so I called the SC personally and reached out to my guide; both seemed a little confused at first but they ended up communicating directly and then I received another text yesterday, Friday afternoon, from the SC and within about 5 minutes we scheduled delivery for this coming Tuesday
I had a lot of questions, uncertainty about the whole process, mostly wondering how long it would take from the initial email to the time I would actually receive my truck. I have read many different experiences and was anticipating approximately 2-3 weeks optimistically but in the end my R1S is currently scheduled to be delivered to my home within 8 days from my initial purchase email. AMAZING.
Hope everyone's experience is as quick and as effortless as mine.
**ADDENDUM**
I should also mention that the same day as the initial "purchase process" email, my guide sent my confirmation that a wall charger had shipped and provided me the tracking number which is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday (same day as the car is now scheduled to get here)
I had an electrician come out last week to look at my home and make plans for installation
I scheduled him to come the next day, Wednesday, after the charger is being delivered
So all in all, Rivian managed (or is planning) to deliver my car from Normal, IL, through Houstan, TX and to my home before UPS can get the charger here!
