What happens if you reject the delivery?

Hey guys

Just wanted anyone/ everyone’s experience when it comes to delivery of a Rivian and the build quality is not up to standard. Seeing some of these build quality issues and was wondering how they get resolved before your 7 day trial ( if they do, and how do they handle these situations)? Also if you outright reject the car over quality concerns, so you get to reconfigure pretty quickly or do you have to wait in the back of the line? Any experiences would be helpful. Thanks!

I rejected delivery upon seeing the vehicle (after signing paperwork but before accepting it through the app). The truck had been damaged in the parking lot and was going to require paint work to be repaired. They shredded the paperwork and matched us with a new VIN. It was sort of like getting a new vehicle through the shop, though the guide did the matching rather than picking something myself.

I suppose that works better for states where your payment doesn't have to be received in CA the day before taking delivery?

No, not referring to taking delivery in CA. Taking about delivery in states like TX where direct sale is prohibited and the purchase must be completed out of state. For Rivian this means payment must be sent to CA and arrive before 3pm the day before delivery (ie, they have to have payment in hand). When I took delivery, a picture of the check and FedEx tracking number were not sufficient and they made me postpone delivery a few days because of a weather related FedEx service disruption at the Memphis hub.

How long does it take for them to get you another car after rejection? Does the car trade in process happen after you accept the vehicle or after the 7 day trial period?

Rejected on a Saturday; had a new VIN on Tuesday. Took 2-3 weeks for the replacement to ship from Normal.

I used the Rivian financing so that part was pretty smooth. However, it did mean that they had the cash portion of my down payment for several extra weeks and I had no vehicle to show for it. They offered some gear as a concession for that.

Do they even try to fix the vehicle that they tried to deliver to you or do they just send you a new one? My concern is that they try to get you to accept the vehicle, and then make a service appointment weeks after the 7 day trial period where you have a chance to return it if you don’t like it. If the service appointment determines that they can’t fix the issue after your 7 days, it seems like you’re screwed and locked in. How do these situations play out?
