Do all EVs only lock the back wheels?
I would argue ALL cars of any type, parking brake only holds the rear wheels.

Yeah... unfortunately the only factors unique to this being an EV/Rivian are:

1. It's heavy as hell, so it will slide sooner
2. It has a charging cable to yank out

Has happened to me at the mountain, albeit not while charging but while loading up the car in park. Very minimal grade and still slid slightly. Could be bad for toes or little kids.

I forgot to ask: Did this break your charger handle or your charge port?

Front wheel drive cars if you put them in park would lock just the front tires unless you put on the park brake. Glad it wasn't that bad could have been much worse ice sucks.

Yes, but FWD vehicles have the drivetrain to potentially fix the front wheels.

Fortunately, it only broke the charger handle. Metal pins are now exposed as the plastic surround was shattered. I still need to get time to test the charging port on the truck, but it doesn't look visually disturbed at all.

I had this happen in my 2000 Pathfinder. 2 inches of snow on a steep, short driveway. Parked, went inside with my girlfriend and her mom (no) came out the next morning and it was in the street.

Reading the title of your thread makes it seem like the rivian just failed on a dry surface, and bombed down a hill.

Did I not park this way before? Can I still use the charger door? Quoth the raven-black R1T, 'nevermore'.

That's good to hear. I think I'd rather change the charging cable than have to mess with removing parts of the truck front to change out the charging port.

I have a steep driveway as well, so now I'm a bit worried about this happening.

Curious for the experts - if you parked with the rear towards the house, would this change anything?

That looks like tire failure rather than vehicle/breaking failure. Are those the OEM all season tires?

Chicago gets enough cold weather to justify winter tires I would think.

I believe the parking brake is on the rear tires and automatically turns on when you put the car in park. If you look close enough, the front tires roll but the back tires slide on the snow.

Car was locked, but a combination of the snow and weight of the vehicle on the incline appear to have been more than physics could withstand.

I did report it to Rivian, but I don't think it's totally the truck's fault. I just need to know how to get a new charger cable.
I recently had a Tesla adapter melt one of the pins in my Rivian Wall Charger/And the Tesla adapter(known issue if you search Tesla forums). Per my guide, they are not offering individual parts to service the wall charger at this time. Getting a whole new unit.
