Amongst all the advertisement-level spam surface-deep reviews on YouTube these days, the relatively substantive & fair cuts in this video was quite refreshing:

Key takeaways / highlights:
  • Good demo of the camp-mode auto-level mode
  • Fair takes on pricing
  • Range hit on the wind/rain (rare for the bay-area) of nearly 60mi.; that was interesting
  • Good brief overviews of the features, so tedious to re-cover the same well-treaded territory of the basic stuff all the Rivians all have
  • Pointed out that they “miss” the gear tunnel; interesting idea, perhaps could be added to an R1S XL

Yeah, Rivian is adventure, but it might want to also look at some aerodynamics, ever bit counts on EV. a 60mi range hit from weather that I will experience 1/3 of my driving time (it's Washington people, wind and rain a near constant for 6 months of the year) makes me cringe/cry. Where is my max pack people....

And the idea of a R1S XL.....Scary. My brain is going back to the 1970s suburbans where it had a butt a mile long. And the R1S already has what looks like a big butt (due to those lack of areodynamics), so making a longer version would only increase that.

Just to clarify as there seems to have been some misundersatnding of what was stated in the video, the 60+ mile range hit was not strictly due to weather. The reported 60 mile hit was the combination of AT tires and weather with about 40 miles of that range loss due to tires/wheels and 20 miles due to the weather. Aero won't negate the effects of rain and the R1 is already about as aerodynamically efficient as a brick of that size is going to get.
