Good afternoon

Taking delivery of my R1T on Saturday. I have heard there can be a lot of heat let in through the pano roof. I currently have a Model S and have never had an issue before, but keep it mainly garaged. The Rivian will not fit in garage so will be outside In socal.

1). Does anyone who has taken delivery have any input on the amount of heat let in?

2). Most tint shops state they will not tint roof because could lead to cracking. The one I am going with for my paint correction / tint / Ppd / ceramic coating comes highly recommended and they have no problem tinting roof.

Should I get it tinted? Anyone have any bad experiences with tinting pano roof?

Best as always

I don't have mine (R1S) yet, but I imagine aftermarket companies are working hard on figuring out solutions for things just like this.

In the Tesla, they have these things which fit very nicely. I'm sure something will be made very soon for the Rivian. Because there aren't a lot out there yet, the aftermarket probably doesn't have many in their hands.

Random pic off Google Images. There seem to be a lot of cheaply made ones, but the ones my cousins/friends have in their Model 3/S are very good and look factory.

Would your opinion be to go this way and not take risk with tinting?

We did the same thing with our model 3, we tinted the back window up to the last upper defroster line and got the screens for the rest of the roof, it does work and I can tell the difference on hot days. I do seem to remember tesla saying that if the roof cracks and you have tint on it, they will not warranty it. I believe 95% of the people have no problem, but the 5% that may. They are likely to pay out of pocket or have a long legal battle.

I wouldn't do anything until it bothers you. The pano roofs are usually fine and don't let in bright sunlight or heat.

You might be trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
I agree with Taycanfrank. Take delivery of the vehicle first and see what you think. It probably isn't as bad as you think it is. And it if is, it'll be later and maybe there are better options out there.

Everyone also has different preferences and tolerances. I don't mind being in a convertible all day. My wife hates it and doesn't even like the pano roof on my X5M being open (not even open, but the shade open letting in light with the roof closed). Grounds for divorce I say!! :p

I recall when I was in Bluff Utah on a hot day doing a long charge at a 62kW 'fast' charger. It was quite hot in fact I was thinking about how I was going to design a screen with reflectix material and some kind of rod for tension to go through the hand holds. Then I could fold it up and put it away when I didn't need/want it. Thankfully in Oregon this won't be a frequent issue for me.

Planning to get the Llumar tint on all glass including the roof. Should make cooling the cabin much easier and improve range.

Before I got my R1T tinted it got quite hot when sitting in the Colorado sun for awhile. On a 90 degree day the interior would read 135-140 when I was at work and it was parked outside. I got the side windows tinted to 15% and the front windshield to 35% and left the rear windshield and roof alone. Now it runs 100-105 in 90 degree sun.

I had never tinted a front windshield before but I love it (yes I know it's technically not legal but cops have never said a word to me on any previous illegal tints). You can barely tell from the inside that it is tinted, even at night, but it does wonders for heat suppression and preventing sun damage to the interior. I also don't need sunglasses most of the time when I'm driving and it gives the vehicle a clean look. 50% tint is a safer option for the front windshield, it's only slightly discernible from the exterior.

Here's what the tint looks like in the evening for reference.

Thanks for the pic... I will take some more of mine as well. I ended up with the equivalent of 15% sides, I think 50% on windshield (maybe. a little lighter) and 45% on the roof.

i agree. The windshield makes a HUGE difference. I have done it on my last three cars and consider a must. Although, it is my first time with the roof. I am hoping it makes a big difference.

Looks nice! I'm in Denver and looking for a shop to do ppf and tint. Where did you take your truck?
House of Wraps in Brighton. Really good prices and the work seems up to par with pricier shops. I was surprisingly his 3rd R1T. Granted the first 2 were right before mine. The PPF they use comes with a ceramic coat.
