Rivian Care now extended to 6 states as of 6/2 -- CO/GA/IL/NY/OR/TX

I had seen some rumors that Rivian Care would be offered in Colorado as of this month, so I checked the Rivian website. AI bot has the below to say about it. No direct sign-up link, but it tells you to go to your account page and fill out the “I’m Interested” form in order to receive an invite. I’m personally very interested as I have less than a year left on my comprehensive warranty. Good news for those of us living in the covered states.

Rivian Care is offered in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oregon, and Texas, with coverage starting today, June 2, 2026, in most of those states.

I'm in Texas and have asked multiple times through service centers, Rivian corporate, emails, etc... and have gotten nothing but crickets in response. If it's available, I have no idea how to obtain it through Rivian. Or maybe they don't want to warranty a Gen 1 with a 3K VIN.

Yeah, I don't see any way to actually sign up. The page says to log in to your account, go to the Rivian Care page, and "express your interest" - the only thing I see is a "notify me when it's available in my state". Even though it supposedly IS now available in my state.

Do they not have a plan without battery coverage? Unless it covers impact damage the normal warranty doesn’t cover? Seems redundant and added cost they’re unlikely to have to cover.

Be careful with Xcare. Read their contract, apparently they have changed their contracts to say that if the aggregate of all claims paid exceeds the value of the car they will stop paying. Most extended warranties say that if the individual claim exceeds the value they won't pay, and they will only pay in aggregate up to the MSRP of the car when new. If you buy a 10 year warranty, it is very likely a battery or motor will end up being excluded

I just called 888-RIVIAN1 and the very helpful rep told me that for more information about the extended warranty I should call 888-RIVIAN1.

He eventually added me to a list of people interested but it was still pretty funny!

The screen i shared is the full coverage, not the battery and drive unit coverage.

I pulled the actual XCare contract text, and you are close to correct. the "trap" is slightly different.

The Aggregate (lifetime) Limit is actually locked to the value of the car the day you buy the policy, meaning that total pool of money doesn't shrink. For example, if you buy the warranty when your car's trade value is $62,000, you get a fixed $62k lifetime bucket. It completely ignores what you paid for it at the time of purchase or the original MSRP.

However, Section V calls out that for a single Breakdown, the payout is capped at the car's Actual Cash Value immediately prior to the breakdown.

So you are 100% correct: if that car eventually depreciates down, for example, to $11,000 in year 8 or 9, and you suddenly need a $16,000 battery replacement, XCare will cap that single claim payout at the $11,000 market value. You'd be on the hook for the $5,000 balance, even though you technically have plenty of room left in your lifetime aggregate pool.

That high lifetime pool is really only there to protect you from year over year failures ...like if you d need a $xk screen replacement, a $xk suspension fix, and a $xk onboard charger repair.

The contract will happily pay out for all of those separate events over time because your lifetime pool is fixed. But the second a single catastrophic component like the battery costs more than the market value of the entire car, they treat it like a totaled vehicle and cap the payout.

Great call-out the single-claim vs. depreciation math equation. I'm less concerned about the battery as I am the suspension and other electronics. I haven't bought the Xcare warranty yet, and may as my comprehensive warranty expires in 2 years from now. I would love cost detail on the Rivian Care plan if it comes to my state.

I’m in Texas and picked up an R1S about two months ago. When signing the paperwork, I had the option to buy the Rivian care, but I really couldn’t understand what the coverage included.

I skipped it, assuming I would be able to extend it later if needed. Ooops
