Drive Cam recordings - memory file size test

Helpful info about size of the Drive Cam recordings, from Rivian owner @DIYrrr :

After recording a few drives with the new dash am feature I wanted to share my data.

It records in 15 minute segments

In 15 minutes, this is the size of each file:

-Front Center: 1.13gb

-Rear Center: 1.13gb

-Side Left: 1.13gb

-Side Right: 1.13gb

-Bed Camera: 788mb

Total of 5.29gb per 15 minutes

This means one hour of footage would be 21.16gb

24 hours would be 507.84gb

SSD seems to be the only reliable option. I tried a Samsung 128gb usb c flash drive and the truck said it was not fast enough

And to clarify, the drive cam recordings are stored on your storage device and are not accessible to view via Gear Guard, correct?

Yes, only the clips, incidents, and motion.

Correct, unless there is an "incident," such as a sudden stop, impact detection, horn blowing, etc. Those get saved to "incidents" and can be viewed.

Pressing the Drive Cam icon will also start a manual recording that will be accessible in Gear Guard.

I'm not sure of the duration or size limits of a manual recording.

Weird. My file sizes were just under 1 gb per view in my R1S. It gets 4 streams, instead of 5 like the R1T. This while driving. Videos that are mostly stationary, with minimal movement of the vehicle gets me file sizes that vary from 250 - 350 mb each.

They are 2 minutes, 15 second pre-roll and 1:45 post.

so, if your drive is full, is it stop recording or just recorded over the old ones?

thats always been the case with the R1S having only 4 recordings, same as in gear guard, due to the fact that the R1S has no bed or bed camera.

I'm using a USB-C to Micro SD with Samsung Enduro 256GB drive and no issues with speed. Which Samsung drive were you using?

It'll overwrite the oldest ones.

Using something similar. A Samsung USB-C 256GB flash drive and it configured just fine. Was about $35 on Amazon.

I went the ultra-cheap route to avoid having a cable running to a separate drive. I had a flash drive in there, turns out it was only 32gb, where the update now demands at least 128gb. This one is 1TB. Plus, it's a type C so no adapter needed.

UPDATE: Ordered last night, received today. Can confirm this one appears to work just fine. Good option for under $30.

Also, discovered that, in addition to pressing the horn for 1 second, there's also a bracketed circle [0] next to the driver's name that you simply tap to save/record video. Very much like Tesla.

So no need to have it record all the time if you don't want it to. It's still actually recording it, just to save it, you need to hit the horn or tap that button which is always at the top of the main screen, just a single tap away.

Does anyone know the required speed? I feel with constant writes it might be better to go with a harddrive than an ssd.
