  1. Regenerative Braking Capacity

I live in Wisconsin and in the winter I purposely time the charging of my car so it reaches its designated charge with in 15 minutes before I have to leave for work in the morning so I do not have to experience the regen limitation. After work as you said I do have regen limitations for 20 to 30...
  2. Fires.

I am concerned with anything catching fire in my garage. About 30 years ago my neighbor was kind enough to let me park my old 1976 camero in his back yard garage to work on it, But his wifes 1967 impala convertible was parked in the way in front of the garage outside, the neighbor gave me the...
  3. Regenerative Braking Capacity

My point is that I would much rather utilize the regenerative braking than to not have it than to put all that heat back into the brake pads and rotors. An average ICE vehicles motor and fuel gas tank doesn't weigh near as much as just the battery on your EV car, The ICE car gets lighter as...
  4. Regenerative Braking Capacity

I think when you compare the heat losses that would be transferred to the brake discs and pads on the car instead of hysteresis in the motor you would see a better trade off to put it towards the motor and battery. Don't forget the batteries weigh close to 1,ooo pounds which is more than your...
  5. Bored, and anxious for a test drive

If I did not have my model 3 to play with in the mean time the wait on the Rivian would be more torcherous than it is. That said, I'm am so looking forward to it for my wife sake, and every time we trade cars for the day I wind up pumping gas into her Subaru Forrester.... ugh.
  6. 0-60 in 3 seconds: are you OK with that?

Yes, I'm ok with 0-60 in 3 seconds. The R1s is for my wife then she can stop borrowing my Model 3 so she can get her G force fix once or twice a week.
  7. Thoughts on Glass Roof?

The model x with the gull wing doors' I can see why it would creak and also why the glass roof could easily crack.I have the Model 3 and my comments about my thoughts on glass roofs is in posted above. Teslas are more of a road car than any thing else including the model X. If you plan on going...
  8. Thoughts on Glass Roof?

I live in Wisconsin I like my glass roof on my model 3, the unwanted excess heat comes in the car through the front windsheild and the side windows that are not tinted with the filtered glass. The glass roof and glass rear windshield does a good job of blocking the heat in those areas.Its...
  9. Flat towing a Rivian

I don't have all the details or the electrical schematics, its could be a simple switched relay or a more complex variable transistor which could feed a portion of the current to battery, bleed off to resistors or capacitors, or open up and save nothing. My dads RV bus talks to his Jeep that he...
  10. Flat towing a Rivian

The article does not apply to a Rivian or the new Tesla motor because they use a permanent magnet motor. The car uses AC to operate the motor, when the motor is not being powered by the inverter from the battery and wheels are turning in a forward direction the motor is producing an AC current...
  11. Rivian Waiting Room: Have you pre-ordered with deposit?

I hope there a ton more people that are going to order one of these trucks that are not watching this forum because so far only 78 vehicles with deposits is not too encouraging to see, its a long way from 20,000.
  12. Flat towing a Rivian

I thought they were referring to the energy they would be recovering when they would be going down hill and when they would be using the tow vehicle to slow down the vehicle that was doing the pulling.
  13. Inside Electrify America’s plan to simplify electric car charging

Hmp10,Well said, The only condition that I can think of that regen braking is not desirable is in icy conditions as I found out the first day I drove my brand new model 3 to work in February and there was glazed black ice on the highway. Otherwise I can vouch that regen braking makes the vehicle...
  14. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

Just think of how happy the plants and animals will be when we are dead. LOL
  15. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

How about all the worn out ICE and deisel blowing smoke and oil all over kingdom come because they can't afford to fix or get a new car.Or are to cheep to care. The numbers are not a real representation of whats really happening out there. Those numbers are from brand new motors and don't...
  16. Rivian Waiting Room: Have you pre-ordered with deposit?
