Missoula where I live has about 80,000 people in the SMSA and is the 4th largest city in the whole state. We have 1 Tesla high speed charger at a chain motel. We have one Tesla destination charger at a bnb. There are 2 chargers in the new parking garage which will give a Nissan Leaf 10 miles of range after an hour charge.

Meanwhile Lima, MT population of about 300 people already has 5 Tesla chargers. Lima is on I-15 and is on the north side of Monida Pass. This should reassure drivers facing the grade or limping in from Idaho.

The northern Rockies are going to need some infrastructure investment soon.

Has anyone else from Montana especially the Bitterroot valley, Flathead valley or Missoula area made a reservation besides me? Should we try to get together now and then?

I've seen them! The Electrify America website has a map function which shows charging locations. In Missoula they mark one at the Wal Mart at Reserve St and Mullan Rd. I drove all the across town to check that out ans yes there they are on the east side of the parking lot. There are 2 350 watt chargers and 2 150 watt chargers. None were in use in the 20 minutes I was there.

I have now found additional charging EA charging stations at Wal Mart stores in other towns. I wonder if this is a good sign for rural areas.

Not from MT, but fairly close by in WA. I'm sure new Rivianists will be few and far between at first, so get togethers may require some long-distance travel. We may have to plan a Rivian Rally somewhere in the PNW to actually make contact with other Rivianists out here. I'd love to get over to the Missoula area again. In my younger days, I spent two summers up at the Univ. of Montana Biological station and so loved western Montana. Really want to get back to Yellowstone, too. Or, we could all meet in Yellowstone, where Rivian SHOULD make sure there are DCFC's.

Annie, good to hear from you and find you have a Montana connection. I always follow your posts for the information and entertainment. I always thought Eastern Washington had to be east of Ellensburg, Ritzville, Pasco, Yakima and such. I guess the left siders define Eastern is anything east of the summits of Snoqualmi or Stevens Passes.

I see some charging companies are supplanting their land lines with Tesla batteries to draw current from the grid at low rate hours the use the batteries in vehicle charging during peak times. I wonder if this might work at your beyond the end of the road cabin. Solar cells would charge the batteries over a few days or even a week or two since no one would be there to draw them down. Same thing with car charging. The car will not be doing any heavy milage so if it takes one or two nights to get 35%-50% charge that will get you out to civilization. This does sort of fly into the face of off the grid since copper wires are involved but there are no direct connection to the outside.

Glacier NP or Yellowstone NP work for me and I think in one of Dr Scaringe(sp) interviews he mentioned those were 2 locations he wanted to build Rivian charging stations. Let's just plan on staging a formal ribbon cutting with an R1T and R1S background. I need to warn you these parks are getting loved to death with annual record visitor numbers in the 2-3 million count.

Will you take your new R1T down to an outdoor advertising firm and get a full camo overlay?

Park City, Utah, about 20 minutes east of Salt Lake City in ski country at 7000 feet, is where I live, facing Deer Valley, Park City, and the ski jumps of Olympic Park. We have dozens and dozens of Tesla’s here. Given our location north of Moab, Arches, Bryce, Zion, and other National parks, and south of the Tetons, Yellowstone, and the Wind River range; we are West of the Unitas, and given our ski location and proximity to SLC, I expect this is a good place for a Rivian break through. I hope so. This is already pick-up and SUV country.

Off-road use requires good mileage for the Rivian and that should lead to range improvements. A 400 mile range in Rocky Mountain and desert West is more a minimum than an optimum for effective use. A vision for adventure vehicles will also spur placement of charging stations in smaller towns or remote spots in or near the great out-doors just as Rivian promises. Go Rivian, go West.

Somebody in MT has one…. I guess location doesn’t completely eliminate you from early delivery.

Not sure. It was posted on a hunting forum I’m on. I saw the MT plate and was like wow! I considered titling my truck in MT (I own property there that I lease out via an LLC), but was worried that would hose me on delivery timing. Maybe not.

Not at all! Delivery and registration are totally separate. You should do MT and save on the sales tax. I'm taking delivery to downtown Seattle, registered to Florida, and home shipping address a more remote Washington address.

There are 4 of us in the Flathead with deliveries in May time frame. Various colors and configurations. Don’t know why MT was blessed but it seems that the order dates are in the lat 2019 range. We have enough for our own club/page. Anyone interested?

I'd be interested! I'll be relocating to the area next summer after school lets out.

Great. You will love it here and if you are young, athletic, adventure some and especially with children you will have more than enough to do with the R1T. Today we went on a 40 mile trip - each way - from our drainage to the Thompson River drainage. Great ride for a beautiful fall day with clear skies and sunshine. The summit was 6,800', we departed from home at 3,900'. We were in a 6 passenger Tracker side-by-side cause wife didn't want the R1T to get scratched. :-((( Keep in touch when you get here.
