Just learned that besides the R1T and R1S, Rivian has four other models in the works!

From a Detroit News article:

The Rivian team plans to begin production by late 2020. The first vehicles would be delivered in 2021. For now, the team is renovating the old Mitsubishi plant, and designing four other unnamed, unannounced vehicles that Scaringe would not offer details on. "Stealth mode," he said.
We already have a truck and SUV and we know there's this Rally type model under development, so my guess for the other 3 unnamed models is a Rivian sedan, crossover and a sports car.

Any other guesses??

I'm guessing a sports coupe is one of them? Rivian began by developing a sports coupe before they abandoned that and pivoted to developing a pickup truck and SUV, so would make sense to add that to the lineup since they must already have previous designs and engineering plans for it (if not actual models or prototypes).

I don't know if sedan makes sense? Their sales are trending down and predicted to stay that way. Crossover sales are trending up so makes more sense than a sedan.

I'd personally like to see a hot hatch Rivian (like Civic Type R). Could be really fun in performance and styling.

In all seriousness, I think a large volume seller midsize sedan would make sense as one of the additional models. As a startup, I'd focus on high volume models first before moving on to really niche models. Which is why I'm surprised it sounds like the third model will be a rally type vehicle. But then again I don't have two degrees from MIT so I'll trust that Scaringe knows better than me :)

I hope one of them is a halo sports car to directly compete with the upcoming Tesla Roadster.

Rivian should have the volume side covered with the truck and SUV models so they should make an outright sports car to showcase the company's design and engineering abilities and to serve as a halo model.

Trucks are all the rage now I know and vital to a car company's financial bottom line, but nobody can look at a car like this and not wonder what company makes it and how it performs...

The idea is that high production is harder to achieve and maintain quality. So, by producing them at a slower rate, they can maintain quality and work the bugs out of the production line before speeding it up. Selling a lot of them with poor quality will hurt more in the long run than selling fewer with higher quality. I would have a Tesla if the build quality and reliability was there.

Good point. I think you're probably right. I would love to see them make a true sports car (not just an EV sedan or coupe) maybe something to take on Porsche's upcoming Taycan?

A competitor to the Wrangler.
That's definitely a vehicle ripe for some EV competition. It doesn't even have any direct ICE competition. Upcoming Bronco revival is supposed to be competition but remains to be seen if it really turns out to be.

Since Rivian has billed itself as a maker of "adventure" vehicles, a rugged off-road SUV (smaller and more rugged looking than the R1S) with removable roof, doors, windshield would definitely make sense. And Jeep sold over 240k Wranglers last year so the demand for that type of vehicle is definitely strong.
