An employee at the event mentioned that the electrochromic roof option can be controlled through the Rivian App, so that's pretty neat. I'm excited to see what all features are controllable through the app.

Drat. I was hoping the glass would completely darken. In south Florida, this glass panel will increase the greenhouse effect too much even with the glass darkened.

Do we know for sure if that was in fact the darkest setting? He doesn't specifically state what setting it was at, just that the transition from light to dark is slower than dark to light...

True. Maybe more information will come out later.

I wonder if they will use a light sensor so it can be automatic. We do that for our residential and commercial lighting and shading projects.

Scrolling through more pics today, I came across a picture that most of us have seen but probably get tunnel-vision'd in on the tent with the couple, mentally putting you and your loved one in their shoes, by the fire near the beach, with the wind in your hair, the smell of salty sea air, the warmth of the fire, talking with them about all the adventures you both will and can do with your new Rivian...

................................................................................................................................Wake Up! .........................................................................................................................................

to realize the fact you can clearly see that the glass roof is completely opaque. You can see the 15" infotainment screen through the windshield so it should be light enough for you to see into the cabin through the moonroof. I know that tint looks lighter from the inside of a vehicle if there is enough light entering the cabin whether it be from an open door or open window. So maybe once they closed the doors at the event in Seattle, we may have seen a more opaque roof. I would like to believe that the electrochromic roof would just get that dark. What do you all think?

I don't think you can draw any conclusions from this picture. It appears to be dusk, so there would be little light inside the cabin.

I do hope that the electrochromatic roof gets really dark, and does a great job keeping out the heat.

Even if there is enough light to see inside the windshield?
Windshields are not tinted. Any amount of tint has significant effect on the ability to see in, especially in lower light conditions.

Dumb question but couldn’t you simply tint the roof? That way it’s not 100% clear to begin with and when it switches to dark it’s very dark. I live in FL so this would make more sense for me.

I'm curious to see what the final version is going to be like. At Mill Valley I was told they were making tweaks to improve heat rejection but they wouldn't or couldn't get into specifics.

That's interesting. If the reference was to electrochromic dimming, I'm having the same difficulty finding out about electrochromic dimming in the Lucid Air.

The alpha car from 2016 had a glass canopy that Lucid said was going to be electrochromic in the production car. There was a dimming switch over the rear view mirror in the alpha car, but the alpha canopy was not electrochromic.

I have asked Lucid sales to confirm whether the early launch vehicles of the Air will have electrochromic dimming, as I cannot have that canopy in south Florida without dimming. They have assured me the canopy will be electrochromic at some point but won't confirm whether it will be so at launch early next year.

This caused me to do a little digging. I found that the electrochromic film that is sandwiched between glass layers is fairly rigid and will tolerate little bending. The film is mostly used in building applications with flat glass. Even the electrochromic windows in the Boeing Dreamliner are flat panes. Other than in high-end Mercedes Benzes, there has been little application in cars due to the tricky manufacturing of even a moderately curved panel. (The smallish Benz "Sky Magic" panel over the rear seat is a $4,950 option.)

I'm wondering if both Lucid and Rivian still have some kinks to work out.

I believe Rivian’s roof will be flat so I don’t see that being an issue
